I've been warned away from using plastic to cover plants because I was told the cold still travels through and they can still freeze inside the plastic. Lowe's sells white frost cloths and they are great for covering plants, and I believe they come in different sizes too. Mine was something like 8' x 16'.
@Betty Well I guess I won't use plastic any more. Always did for my hostas and they have been okay so far...I have a Lowe's real close. Guess I better pop by. Thanks!

Burlap also works or old sheets in a pinch for covering in case of frost. I have also just turned over a 5 gallon bucket and placed over treasured plants during a heavy frost. Don't forget to uncover as soon as possible though.

Well I think I do have a roll of burlap in the garage. Now to find it I didn't receive any daylily orders today but I did get my garden signs. I think I am going to use oil paint markers to do the writing. Any one use this type? Know what stays on and does not fade due to weather? I found them on ebay for a decent price and will be able to get everything properly tagged when planted.

Catherine, Nrb44 also sells those markers on the Lily Auction, and in fact I just bought a bunch from him. Also, I have a Brother P-Touch labelwriter and make these nifty labels for those markers, and they last for years in full sunlight -- plus you can take off the old label or cover it over with a new one when you want to make a change. I really love those markers and my labelmaker!
And aren't they lovely -- and very healthy looking too! Do you see any signs of scapes yet? I'll have to check my two minis I got from them. And I know I have some of the bigger ones from them that have scapes emerging now -- YEA!!!
I have used those Markers too. The Brother labels will last for years. I also just use a #2 pencil and write the name on the back of the label as well. The pencil lasts even longer, but is not easily read from standing ht. Thats why I put it on the back. It's there if the brother ever fades. I have had the brother labels for at least 4 years and they have not faded one bit.

Betty I didn't check for scapes though I think I see one. Will have to look closely tomorrow. The rest of the order should be here tomorrow as well. I'm going to be busy!

I'm super stoked with all the toothy goodness soaking in a bucket on my porch. Now i just have to figure out where to plant them I do know it will be somewhere in the backyard as the front yard has become the deer salad bar. However thjat means I need to move 5 things out of the back yard and into the salad bar

I will have to make a note of that seller on the LA. I am sure I will end up needing more. About how much does the label maker cost? I may end up getting one of those. I got a shipping notice finally Shark Attack is on the way! I should have more shipped tomorrow. I Can't Wait...Just Saying

Cat I think I got mine @ Staples years back for around 30ish. I know you can get them on amazon too, as well as the tape. The last time I got tape I bought it on amazon since it was a lot cheaper.
Glen, I was really pleased to get a bonus, let alone a new intro. Hopefully I will have loads of toothy pics to show you all this summer.

You can check them out, and also the tape that goes with a particular model, at this website where I got mine:

I got a stand-alone labelmaker so I can create a label anywhere, but there are other models you use with your computer. I have the P-touch Model #PT-1880 which uses the TZe-241 3/4" tapes.
