Daylilies cost more, so you can easily justify buying more irises don't you know! Smiling

Ken you will love that one, it's a good increaser as well as being really nice. It was near where many of mine got the rot problem this year, and it came through just fine.

So far I've ordered 50 tall bearded and 10 Japanese iris - Will also wait & see what Schreiner's will offer in their summer flyer. In about three weeks I will visit Winterberry Gardens which is only 45 miles from my house and see what they have. I also do trades with Jim Exline of Exline Iris Gardens located across the Potomac River from me and just outside Berkeley Springs WV so my yearly iris spree is not over yet. Whistling

LOL! I agree Tom - I think I've been in the Crazy League for the past five years. I probably have around 500 different iris at any given time. Each year I replace some of my older ones which fizzled out with newer ones that I pray will do better. I do alot of moving around, too, so it's never-ending but enjoyable. It can be a challenge for sure.

tveguy3 said:Ken ONLY 3! Although you did qualify that with a "yet" so there may be hope for you. You will have to tell me how to get daylily seeds to grow. I made some crosses a few years back got seeds, and couldn't get them to grow. Maybe that's a good thing.

Not sure what the best way is. What worked for me is that I dried seeds for a day or two and put them in a ziplock bag. Threw them in the fridge crisper for about a month or so. I thinks they need that cold dormant period to break dormancy. Then put them in a slighly moist paper towel and put them back in fridge for a week or two. Pulled them out from there into a dark warm area and they began to sprout. Some of them sprouted in the fridge. Some of the seeds took up to a month or better to sprout, but I got about 90% germination rate.

I have done it that way, too, and had some okay success with it; more or less success according to the origin of the seed, I think.

I think I have some seeds that are a couple years old now, not sure if it's worth a try with them, but maybe I'll make some crosses this year and give it a try.

Should be a good year, Arlyn. The emerald ash borer is taking a toll on my favorite spots though.

The number of irises I have ordered are between Tom's total and Arlyn's. I went to a iris growers garden in west Ar today and bought ten SDB's in pots. I usually keep my number of ordered irises down but the people on this site post the most amazing photos and then say things like....'it blooms its head off' and 'it looks better than its picture' and 'this one just keeps going' so I did not have a chance. It was not my fault. I was enticed and led along this primrose (or should I say Iris) path by having beautiful irises dangled in front of my nose. (I cant wait to get my new irises and have them bloom like the ones in your photos. lol)
I am going to White Rock Gardens tomorrow south of me to walk through iris beds. I will take my notepad and pencil with me so that I can make another list. sigh

Yikes! I just went and counted--208. I told myself all winter that I *had* to cut way back this year. I have had about 20 die, so maybe I can use that as justification if I try hard . . . .

I'm especially worried that I already have so many ordered because unforeseen and unpassable opportunities always end up presenting themselves throughout the summer. Who is going to tend all these things? Debra, maybe you can teach me what you learned during your manic daylily jag?

You need some serious intervention, my friend. I'd hate to see your tab if you hadn't "cut way back this year"!!! Whistling Hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing

OK, Bonnie, Let's be honest. (Half way between Tom and Arlyn) Clarity and honesty are necessary in order to deal with this addiction. You start out by saying, "My name is Bonnie, and I'm and iris-aholic, I have ordered ______(exact number) irises. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing No soft peddeling allowed! Hilarious!

Well congratulations Britt, you are the current standing champion! Spoken like a true iris addict, "I lost about 20, so I order 200!" Arlyn, you better get those catalogs out and start ordering, as Britt has left you in the dust. Hilarious!

Now, if Brad were to let us know what he's ordering, (probably lots to replace his winter losses) He would most likely be our standing champion. If you use Britt's math, if you lost 200, you should order 2000! I'm liking that. Come to think of it, I lost 5, so I should order 50, I'm short about 5, so I better get on the stick too. O good, Now I have a statistical reason to order some more. Whistling
