A friend sent me a piece of Monstera stem last week. Looks like it's going to make 2 tops!

Whenever these cacti/succulents finally get to blooming, (after I stop chopping them up to make more,) it's going to be wild around here!

Thank you I hope this method works because I tried rooting cuttings and they did not work.

Tiffany green Kalanchoe you have in you last pic. I had a leaf of that one and just put it on top of the soil this summer and it is already a good size plant.

Thumb of 2014-08-21/Cinta/772c1b

The Blue Kalanchoe you have in that pot I just cut a bunch of cutting off of it because it had just a bunch of long stems with the leaves on the end. I think that plants wants to be a ground cover. Every couple of years I have to cut it because is has long stems with roots shooting out on the long stem with the leaves at the tip.

Cinta, those look GREAT! It will be a few years before I have an opinion about what most of these c/s plants usually do or want to do. Had very few of them before the past couple years, which I now think is ridiculous. Why did it take so long for me to realize what cool plants these are???! Probably because it took so long for me to get away from being a serial overwaterer of plants. Soon, I'll have more of those than the more traditional leafy tropical house plants.

BUT, I'm seeing the same thing on the blue-ish Kal as what you've seen. Just wants to lean and take root, and I also recently cut a bunch of the stems (many more than just that pic) because I figure they'll make more tops if cut, which they are starting to do. I'm obsessed with creating patches of it, some of my fav leaves! Look at the color on these out in the sun. I know they're all the same plant because I started with 1 that had a single stem.

That's K. fedtschenkoi, same as yours?

And interesting that Angela would put those pics up right then. I was going to ask if any of the branches of the Rhody you want to prop will reach the ground? If so, you could lay a rock/brick on 'em and then forget for a while. That's about the only kind of layering I have patience for. If nothing will bend that far, maybe bending to the surface of a pot, a lot like Angela's pics, would be possible?

Angela, those look really nice!

Thanks Tiffany I originally tried cuttings of the pups but they would just die while the mother plant was hanging all the offshoots where headed towards a pot sitting on the table so this just makes it easier for them.

I was rooting a red passi and Mexican flame vine - so ecstatic to say they both are rooting well - new growth is coming up!!!
Been trying to root the red passi several times with no luck but this time it took!!

I have several wisteria cuttings but they are not looking good. At our MG class, I got several leaves of the ZZ plant - so hoping they will root.

I get my best results with passies in cooler weather for some reason - with the nights in the mid to upper 60's.

Currently rooting the blue butterfly vine - clerodendrum ugandense.

Clerodendrum ugandense is now Rotheca incisa and it's not a vine.

I think it is Rotheca myricoides, not R. incisa

Just an update on the strawberry begonia propagation. Most of them developed very healthy roots a few didn't root at all but are still green and healthy so I just put them on some moist soil and removed some leaves so they could get better contact.

Angela, you are getting good growth. I might try this.

@ Tiffany......That's K. fedtschenkoi, same as yours?
I have both the blue one and the varigated one. Love them both in the sun.

This is them side by side. The solid one is on the right bottom corner. I have always loved varigated plants but this one I like both equally. The color is awesome in both of them.

Yes that is how I am rooting the Rhody is so big I can get limbs pulled to the ground and that is how I am rooting. Cuttings did no work. As you can see it is a monster.

Absolutely lovely!! TY! That does look the same. Here's a stem cut a few weeks ago. Now making 5-6 new branches.

Was outside earlier for about an hour cutting off all of the over-baking plants placed mistakenly in a kid of frenzy early last year, mostly epiphytes. Not everything called 'cactus' wants to bake in the sun all day. If the roots don't grow back, that's fine. I'm sure the cuttings will take, will place them in pots in less sun tomorrow after they've calloused.

Yes I totally understand trying to figure out what wants what. I got started 20 yrs ago over on GardenWeb when Jeff was sending boxes back then it was the huge box that they now charge 26.00 that was 10.00. He lived in California back then. He said anybody that wanted cutting he would load a box of clippings. I was hooked every since.

The colors in some of them are prettier than flowers and so easy to root.

I'm currently propagating African violets, golden pothos, marble queen pothos, lucky bamboo and a variegated prayer plant. Later on this week I want to attempt to propagate my string of hearts.
