I'm looking forward to your findings. Comparison experiment. Water/rooting hormone soil... please keep us posted! I, too have a Nepenthes that is in need of "rejuvenation"/taking cuttings.... Thumbs up

I am rooting pink porter weed in water. So far I've tried with four cuttings and everyone rooted in about two weeks.

I am trying seeds for the first time in years. These are the ones I have ordered....
Bauhinia retusa...a small orchid tree. I grow several species of Bauhinia so I would like to have this one

Cananga odorata...this is probably a mistake but they were BOGO so I couldn;t resist. This is the Ylang Ylang tree, Chanel No 5 is made from this tree. I had one years ago. It was so fast growing it threatened to outgrow my greenhouse and I had to take it out. This time if I get these to germinate I will keep them in containers, they may stay smaller

Delonix regia....see above....Royal Poinciana....common in South FL not hardy here but hey...a girl's gotta dream

Hedychium elatum. A cool ginger. Hope these are fresh enough to sprout

Macaranga grandifoila, parasol tree....the coolest looking tree ever...the leaves look like HUGE peltate anthurium or elephant ear leaves

Mucuna holtonii.... a white Jade Vine

Reinhardt simplex, a rare small palm

Strelitzia juncea, the leafless bird of paradise

I am propagating a ivy geranium. I just roots and new leaves. At first I had it in a small soda bottle with the top cut off with water and potting soil. But I dumped out that for fresh stuff and didn't put in new soil. With a seed fertilizer.

clintbrown said:I'm propagating Winterberries and Hydrangeas right now. I have best luck with these under a ziplock baggie. I spray with a fungicide to keep them from rotting. I don't use the EZ Clone propagator for either of these plants. I'm also air layering a few Winterberries and Hydrangeas outside. I'll know soon which method worked best.

What are you propagating?

Hey there.
In winter I am propagating pittosporums silver sheen. From the hardwood tips.and tips only. I am using a stronger hormone strength powder for the hardwood layers.
I also propagate cistus cuttings.
Cistus grows very well in any kind of soil.
It needs plenty of care and is a perrenial flowering shrub.
I usually start cuttings after flowering season is finished after march "summer" in winter or autumn is the best time to do these plants.
I am going for rosemary tuscan blue cuttings in winter or autumn.
Wish me luck! Hope you go well with your berry layering.

Had an unfortunate accident with my huge, old jade plant when I tried to re pot it in October, so I had to take cuttings. They are doing well, in half potting mix and half sharp sand, in a south window. Also having to do Thanksgiving cactus because my newest fur baby couldn't resist chewing on them. I started these last month, the juries out on them right now. They are not completely shriveled, but don't look all that good. One branch was so large I had to prop it up with a pencil in the pot.

I enjoy displays of various coleus plants in spots in my garden. I had a whole batch of them as I was cleaning up
last fall, so I took 6 cuttings of six varieties. Now I have about 50 plants in my tiny New York City apartment.
I cannot wait until Mothers Day so I can clean out my shelves. My wife will appreciate that too!
This is just one window sill. It's been a lot of fun this winter though.

I am new to this forum. Could you explain to me what is "air layering"?

Bill your view recalls fond memories of my grad student years in Manhattan....More than 40 years ago. Thank You! for uploading it beyond your lovely Coleus plants. These also recall fond memories...they were used for trialling in my ag student years to test hydroponic solutions. I had them growing in plastic coffee cups in my parent's balcony in Buenos Aires.

Arturo. That was a good assignment. Coleus propagates nicely, so all the student needs to think about is the hydroponics. Mine sprout roots in jam
jars and then get a little earth in larger cups while waiting to go out into the garden.

right guys I'm very new to all of this but if I want to propagate my rubber plant can I do that? would I just cut off a healthy leaf and pop it in some water until I start to see roots and then transfer to a small pot?

Welcome! plantbud!
For your ficus elastica, you would want to learn about "air layering".
It's a bit more involved than just taking a "cutting", but it does work!
A healthy leaf will do nothing, but rot.

HI & welcome plantbud! It is possible to cut a stem and stick it in soil. It has worked for me when I've tried it, submerging about 6-7" of the bare stem up to the point where the leaves emerge, so the petiole of the lowest leaf is almost touching the soil.
