There's always room for more Narcissus here, Catmint. I'll send you a treemail soon. Smiling

Yesterday we hosted a mini-carnival birthday party all day long, until well after dark, so today's a big cleanup day for us. Rolling my eyes.

I'm encouraged by that. I've been wondering how it's going to go here, next year when there are no doubt going to be a few "events" that will have to co-exist with the garden. When I read that other people do it, I feel less nervous about things.

One thing it makes me really aware of is clearly demarcating boundaries and borders and making sure there are enough stepping stones and pathways, as I go along.

Those are gorgeous! Do they smell like onions though? Still, I wouldn't mind a couple of those in with the daffs. Green Grin!

I think if you snip a leaf and smell it, it will have an onion smell, but mostly it's just pretty! Smiling Also is beneficial in the garden -- all species of Allium reportedly repel a variety of pests like aphids, carrot flies, moles, tree borers, weevils. The bees usually love them.

We had a bounce house, piñata, a mystery fishing game, and a life-sized board game painted on the lawn. Nine guests, plus the birthday boy, all between the ages of six and eleven, and an equal number of adults. Pre-party (garden-saving) planning included plenty of wood chips in the beds and borders nearest the activity areas and careful placement of potted plants and flowers to direct traffic away from sensitive areas. Plus, our just turned nine year-old is very adept at guiding his friends to play and run on the lawn, not in mom's flowerbeds. Lovey dubby He even organized his own obstacle course game during an after lunch lull in the preplanned activity schedule. Big Grin

The earlier nightfall was good for glow sticks, LED balloons, and since we've had a wet summer, fireworks over the lake.

The gardens and yard look pretty good now; no crushed plants, the grass is recovering, and all of the cleanup is done! Hurray!

Rolling on the floor laughing Well, I tell ya, I surely didn't feel young in the week leading up to this affair, or the day after...but I'm rebounding today. Thank goodness!

Sent off some "plant lust" items for others today, and dug and delivered a truckload of hostas to a tea shop in the woods owned by some friends of ours a few roads over. I might even have a bit of energy and time left over to do a little snipping and straitening in the gardens here, but I'd better get a move-on! Big Grin
