i think ag. siam aurora is the easiest to distinguish WHEN it's grown in good light - the leaves can turn almost totally blinding red-pink. where as crete/cherry retain a lot of green and red is in veining/edges.
but crete/blk cherry ? i won't be able to tell the difference. it would be interesting to get all three from the same reliable-label source and compare under same growing conditions. or at least take pics in the nursery of all three .
i did just find a ref to ag. 'creta' on a whole-salers nursery site - perhaps it is a correct name?
here's a great pic link - not in english, but on the right side there is a list of hybrids: indonesian and thai. click on names to see pics . that's the most exhaustive list i found so far. however, 'siam aurora' is the only one in that list. it makes me think that perhaps crete/cherry are US trade-names? or perhaps it's an english translation of the name - at least for black cherry?

Oh boy. More names. Hilarious!

That would be nice to be able to have them all in the same growing conditions. That would settle names once and for all.

It appears to be a plant that would sport. The leaves are probably not stable and prone to change and morph into different colors.

I keep going back to Hostas because it is a plant that I have grown for so long and all the different sports that come from one plant is amazing. One day it is one plant and the next year you have sprouts on the plant that is a totally new plant.

I would think that is why it has so many different names with slight variance. The black cherry pics that I did see it did look like a black cherry at least on the back of the leaves.

so if i see a crete with dark undersides - i'll be assured that i got a black cherry! i'll try to remember Big Grin
cinta, there's one with your name in thai list - you MUST not stop until you find it ;).
honestly, i dont' even like most colorations, but there are some i would buy on the spot even if i dont' have any space for them whatsoever. my only one anyamanee is doing so well since i got it last dec that i think i could do some more with relative ease.

I know I saw that. I saw Cinta and I started googling already. Rolling on the floor laughing

No it was the black cherry that looked like what I would think black cherry would look. The pics I saw were very dark and you good see a hint of red.
