CAKE PLATE FFO. This one I bought from Judy Davisson on the Lily Auction. She is a fabulous source for late bloomers. I know she will be putting things up for sale again on the LA in August.

Today is the 16th of August which in our zone is late for blooming daylilies much less FFO. I still have bloom and I did want to post todays FFO here instead of my picture thread because I really want people to realise what they can have if they get intro late and extra late blooming daylilies.

I would certainly like to have some extra late bloomers but they certainly wouldn't do me any good for hybridizing. I'm not sure if the pods would mature before the weather gets cold. It would be nice though to have more bloom going on. As of right now, I have only about 8 daylilies that are still blooming. I either have to get more late bloomers or put some more annuals like zinnias in amongst the daylilies. A couple of years ago I gave away a very very late blooming seedling. I wish now I would have saved a piece of it.

I still have a few blooming, Zena is going gangbusters.

This is the first year for most of my lates and VL's. Almost all began blooming in July. I don't know if it is because they haven't 'settled' in yet, or the cold spring and hot july messed with their seasons.

On the other hand, my hibiscus is blooming about 2 weeks later than normal this year. ~Jan

Thats good for you Jan. I would welcome any late blooming flowers, not just daylilies. I never was too crazy about chrysanthenims but I do like the late blooming sedums.

One very late bloomer that just opened its first flower here yesterday is WONDER OF WONDERS a lovely little double lavender bloom. Its a bit short for my liking but I'll take it.

Another source for late bloomers that I really recommend are the intros of Dr. Wesley Whiteside who uses the Charleston Harvest prefix. I bought my Whiteside intros from 5 Acre Daylily Farm.

http://www.5acrefarmdaylilies....

Look down the list on the left and click on the one listed as 2010 INTROS 8 Valentes and 2 Whitesides. Scroll down on the right and near the end they show the two listed. CHARLESTON HARVEST RED ELF and CHARLESTON HARVEST PINK. The pictures are not very good but ignore it. I have both of these and have shown pictures of RED ELF. I have PINK in my garden too but it did not bloom so I don't have a picture. There are two more that I have but they don't seem to be shown on the website. Now that I think about it they weren't shown on the website when I ordered them either. They just told me about them and I ordered them sight unseen. There is also CHARLESTON HARVEST AUTUMN BRONZE which I started blooming about a week ago here. Then then is CHARLESTON HARVEST AUTUMN MOONLIGHT which has not opened here yet! So it is REALLY late. Those two not shown on 5 Acres.

Thumb of 2011-09-06/Newyorkrita/9506b7
In fact here is CHARLESTON HARVEST AUTUMN MOONLIGHT taken yesterday.

I am not sure why only two are available on the website and not the other two but you could e-mail and ask. Late and extra late season bloomers are really fantastic to have and hard to find. I recommend these Whiteside intros to extend your daylily season.

CHARLESTON HARVEST AUTUMN MOONLIGHT FFO. I have been waiting for the first flower to open on this one. I think ANY FFO in September is remarkable! The only thing still left in my garden to open first flowers now is AUTUMN ODDITY which is not near blooming yet.

Have these enroute:

Look See (ML)
Mindanao Deep (ML)
Kachina Firecracker (ML)

Not Late, or Very Late, but heading that way. :-)

Also have this one and it is a bit confusing on bloom time. Most show it as EM, or M. Some show it as EML. Hoping for best. Sticking tongue out
