Animal Control says it is a local police problem. Same with the fox. The fox is a State Wildlife problem and only the rangers can trap them without a special permit and only farmers with a big loss of animals can request that. I give up. Shrug!

My lazy way of planting my spider plant babies, without cutting off from mommy plant yet..putting container with soil under and let the stalk hang over it, till it continues to grow that stalk grow longer or the roots grow longer and touches the soil. just lazy me mode.

That is great Tarv and it is recommended in some of the articles I have seen. I just do not have the place to do that with all my spiders. I cut my babies and stick them in water for a few days sometimes weeks, depending on how busy I am and when I have time I transplant them into the pots they are being sold in. Usually the 3" then I only handle them once.

I noticed I have two solid green plants someone gave me and they are having plantlets and they are solid green, which means they are not Hawaiian, which I think it is hard to tell the difference, and they are not Shamrock because the leaves are thinner and more frail looking. I am excited to have the babies get big enough to work with and plant to see if they revert to variegated. I will try and remember to take a picture of them next time I go to the GH.

Here is a picture of the solid green babies. The strip in the middle is a pale green. Difficult to show it on a picture.

I am trying to identify this spider plant. It is a different cultivar than any I have. Does it look familiar to anyone on this thread? I put it up on the Plant ID to see if anyone could help me.
Thumb of 2014-10-18/JB/14f84c

It is a pale green with champagne/green strips on the edges.

It certainly looks like a Variegatum for sure but the color seems different than mine. I will have to take it out in the greenhouse and check with those out there.. Maybe it has changed color because of where is was raised, the environment and amount of light it gets could make a difference. It has a very off white , creamy stripe....really looks like a C. laxum 'Bichetii - Siam Lily ....color but they do not have babies, they just flower and you separate them at the roots to propagate.
My Variegatum have thinner leaves than this one...but being a baby, it is difficult to see what it is like mature.
I love trying to figure things like this out. When I have time. Thanks Planto .... Group hug I will let you know when I compare those in the greenhouse. It does not match the one in the house.

JB--

It is ME--your long lost friend.....

Just wanted to tell you my CC's are ALl doing great. They are all now inside--
and most of them are in bud and will pop pretty soon. They sure have grown BIG--
and i am starting to worry about what to do after they bloom.
I, certainly, do not need any more CC's.--but how can i resist cutting them back and
rooting the sections??? HOW!!!! Woe be me--I am so addicted to propagating everything...

I, especially, want to show you what the yellow CC you sent me looks like.
It is akin to the salmon one--robust and very strong stems and structure. Too strong!
All it's stems radiate out like spokes on a wheel--very long and strong.

I need your advice IF and WHERE to cut the stems back to shape it a bit into more of a
rounder form. it cannot keep growing outward like it is doing it now.
Help!

Here is the Yellow CC --what do you think? Will send you more pictures when everything
blooms.

Thanks--Gita

Gita, Hi, The White, Yellow and Orange were all purchased at Hirt's. They were called Zygocactus x yellow, Zygo x white and Zygo x orange. All three are the strongest plants I have ever seen and I have been just taking cuttings off of them and selling them because they are such healthy strong plants. I do not know what they are crossed with to make them so strong, but that is normal for those three that I think you have. I am not sure that is not the way that particular hybrid is to grow. The base of mine looks like a tree?????Your guess is as good as mine. My plants look terrible now because they are all cut back. They will not bloom this year since I kept selling their cuttings up to the point where they would have been pushing buds. I knew when I sold so many cuttings that I was not going to see blooms. My personal thought is that when it is finished blooming, remove the stems so it looks how you want it to look and see how it grows back.

I know your feeling, I have the entire side of the greenhouse full of CC/HC and I just do not have any room for anymore. The house if full of 10 different species of spiders and the other half of the greenhouse has some misc. houseplants I am selling.
I am either going to have to quit this propagation or get more space....which I do not want to do. I am just getting to old for this. My body is not keeping up with my mind. Thumbs down

I was waiting to hear from you privately but have not had time to go see if there was a reply to my post. I will do that now. Glad to see you are still well and enjoying your plants.

JB--

Privately? Where? Did you send me a Tree mail?
I still do not know my way around--so I may miss stuff you sent.

You could add the salmon one to your list of "strong-growing" CC's.

Teeee-Heee---we both have the same sickness....(propagationitis).
Are there any pills we could take to cure this infection? I just have another Margarita!

I am plugging away trying to clean up my garden. Every free day i have...for hours!
Most of my annuals are pulled up--even if they were still in full bloom
My Coleus cuttings are all taken--potted and now trying to root. The rest--all trashed.

This week, i will be cutting back my Brugmansias and taking some cuttings from
those as well to root. Then--off they go into my dark, cook Shop to snooze for the winter.
Not too many people still want these--as the ones that did--already have them.

These days are SOOO gorgeous--but the nights sure drop down to chilly.
I hope this pattern holds up until ALL my yard work is completed. That's all i ask.

OK! Shower time--so I am all done with that--and can sit down and watch "Dancing With the Stars"...
CANNOT EVER miss this show!!!

Hugs to you! Stay warm and stay well. XOXOX-- Gita

Gita, look on Dmail...I found some messages from you that I had not answered and I replied. I am sorry I do not check in there very often. just to check on you is the only reason. My membership is up soon then I am going to leave completely. Use Email or Tmail if you want to stay in touch. I closed the Etsy store and the Cubits never did well at all so I just leave it open to support cubits. ATP, FB and Pinterest are my favorites and because of my eye and that stupid cataract I am not on there as much as I would like to be.

The lack of business was not the problem as much as the time it was taking to keep three stores up and running and not missing something. Costs were going up also and I did not like the way Etsy's way of taking over on some of the responses to customers. It is different when you are selling plants compared to crafts .....I really like Etsy and will support them all I can, I just do not want to sell plants on there anymore.

I am happy just playing around on eBay and they have been great to deal with. Did you know eBay and PayPal are going to be separate businesses soon. I got notice a few weeks ago and I do not remember when it will happen but I am anxious to see what the big differences will be. If the costs will double or what? I love PayPal and use it personally as well as business. I send my grandson an allowance using paypal because the bank charges if I do it there. I am too cheap to give the bank more money. Rolling on the floor laughing

Pinterest is an interesting site. I like it a lot and get some business from there also. No fees and it is amazing how many people you reach if you know how to work it. Thumbs up

JB,
Oh, well that's sort of good news (good in the sense that you were still getting a lot of business, not good otherwise).

I didn't know that about eBay and PayPal. I wonder what that will mean too. Lol, I don't blame you, the banks get you coming and going sometimes it seems. Hilarious!

I never did look into Pinterest. I see some nice pictures on there sometimes, but I never did make myself an account.

Hello,

I have some problems with spider plants.

1. I have bought spider plant but I don't know his specie. Do I have Vittatum or Bonnie?

2. Also I have bought Chlorophytum comosum but I don't know this is natural original Chlorophytum comosum? I mean, is this original Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) that grows in Africa or not? If not, then what is it?

It is not really a good idea to try and identify the variety of your spiders by their pictures since there are so many and I do not want to tell you wrong. I have listed and described all my spiders on pinterest with pictures and descriptions. Maybe you could look at them and compare yours with them.

https://www.pinterest.com/JBsP...

Off hand I would say you have all Chlorophytum comosum and the top plant looks like a
Chlorophytum Comosum 'Vittatum'

The Bonnie has the same markings but you will see by the pictures on pinterest it is a smaller plant and the leaves are curly in most cases.

The Chlorophytum comosum looks like the plain green, but I see a faint light green or it could be cream color stripe in the center of the leaf. This could be one of several depending on the strip and how it was identified when you bought it. The true plain green spider is really not to easy to come by. I have seen it identified as plain green (I have two and they are both different) and I have nothing to go by except I bought them from growers of spiders trying to be sure I got what I bought. I still am not sure. Hilarious! We can only hope people know what they are talking about when it comes to really identifying these little gems.

Just to confuse you even more, there are many other Chlorophytum spiders. One is Chlorophytum laxum 'Bichetii' which is a really pretty plant and is known from growers also as the Siam Lily or Wheat Plant and it looks like the others but it has very short leaves. It does have the variegated and plain leaf too.

So, you also have to be sure you have a Chlorophytum comosum if you are collecting them. Please get back to me with any questions. I am always here.

1--JB-Here is one of the spiders I have in a 6"pot. I think it is the same kind i sent you cuttings of,
as I do not have any more "kinds". This one sure shows the golden look. may be just the light
or the camera.

2--Here is where my "Bonnie" plant spends every winter--among it's "cousins.
It has grown a lot more babies--even inside. It has been in this pot for so long...
bur I don't dare mass with it. It is doing quite well.

3--Here is "Bonnie" hanging off of the roof edge of my patio roof. Because there is a maple
nearby, it seldom gets any sun. The roof also shades it. This is where it spends the summer.

4--Here is a load of babies growing. All kinds. I have too many!!!

5--This one is in a ceramic pot and is getting a bit root-bound. Top is splaying apart.
I swear when i planted it that it was a curly one--but it no longer looks like it.
The coloration is there, and the slim fronds are there--but the curl is not.
Maybe I water it too much and the ceramic pot will not evaporate the moisture?

6--Here is my big old Swedish Ivy. Don't see these for sale any more either.
I've had it forever--maybe 20+ years--always propagating it from cuttings

OK, JB--I dropped by--late--but I did. You are right--I do not spend a lot of time here on ATP.
DG keeps me busy... Gita
