Paul, I'm new here too. I'm sorry to hear about the difficult year you've been having and about the loss of your wife. I hope the coming year is better for you, and look forward to seeing your crosses sometime in the future. I love your tag line by the way "Grandchildren are my greatest joy." It makes me smile whenever I notice it.

Brad your crosses are gorgeous!!! Every one of them looks like it could be introduced (of course we can't see height, branching, bud count and all that)...but still I would be delighted to have any or all of them in my garden!

I'm hoping to get into my seedling bed this afternoon after I get back from the Vet to do some weeding. It's a really nice day today.

Some SDB hybridizers have been working on turquoise. One in commerce is 'Tu Tu Turquoise. the color comes from spots on a white background. since whites & blues are sort of related, I would think working with those would be a starting point.

Brad - I agree with the rest. Those are wonderful iris. That gold and purple one is a stunner!

All this talk makes me want to collect seeds next year. Still a bit unclear on the crossing process with the pollen but seeds are a start.

Paul - sorry you have been having so many troubles. We miss you here on the iris thread.

More Tu Tus...I love it! I noticed Bonnie has Tu Tu Turquoise, maybe she can tell us how it looks. The database photos are a little dark so it's hard to see the color well.

I have it as well, bloomed for me last year for the first time. It's not the best shapped bloom.

There was a guy on here last winter who was trying to develop turquoise in TB's I don't remember his name, but haven't seen him on here in a long while.

I think Winterberry Farms does a lot of turquoise breeding. Dee was doing some, and I hopes she doesn't quit.

Tom, that was Marvin Davis or Diggit. I do grow one of his TB irises but not a turquoise.

I have several SDB's that fall into the turquoise category such as, Miss Meredith, Teagan, Tropical Shoals as well as TuTu Turquoise. But I do not have a TB that is turquoise and I hope Marvin is making progress in that direction.

I've noticed that Barry Blyth uses "Magical' a lot in his breeding too. Great minds think alike?

Polly, I forgot to mention that Winterberry Farms was a great help in my search for turquoise SDB irises. They also recommended Blues Clues and Teal Lines which they sent as bonuses. And when I chatted with them via email and told them I like green irises they also sent Green Spring. Really helpful in describing exact colors in order to get what I wanted. I was looking for Miss Meredith and mentioned it on here and Tom found that Winterberry had it. I took note and followed up. I cant wait to see Tropical Shoals next spring - if it blooms - as it looks like a little turquoise iris with a big beard.

Magical is one of those really nicely formed irises, I think. Gitano is another one, and I've used that one a lot in my quest for a unique pink.

But none of these are mine all are seedlings from Mid America, Kieth, and Joe except for the 1st one on the left the Pink it is called Star Turn and was one of this years intro's from Joe. I was just lucky enough to be able to take pictures of them in there gardens and wanted to show a sample of what is popping up in there seedling beds hopefully to help enable you all to do some pollen daubing , I would be thrilled to get any of these plants and maybe in the coming years we will see them get a name and will be able to work with them. I spend a lot of time studying the pedigrees of the new ones introduced in the winter this helps when I can't get outside winter boredom is my time to plan crosses and learn about what is a good parent and try to find a pattern somewhere to help me reach my goals our ATP database is also awesome for this simply click on the plant and it lists all the kids it has produced and by studying the parents you get a idea of the quality of the plant you are working with.

Sherry.. Magical is a favorite here it has everything you could want in a Iris, Hence the name and the seedlings Joe has from it are gorgeous. I am really excited to see my plants from it in the spring hopefully can get that form and ruffles in all kinds of colors. It won a Wister medal this year and I would think it would be a sure bet for the Dyke's in the coming years but then again was shocked Gypsy Lord didn't win this year it has almost 50 registered kids and was just introduced in 2006 and every garden I visited had multiple seedlings from it I almost started sending out emails asking for a recount but of course nobody would have listened and I am biased on that one.
