Freezer tape is useful for wintersowing because it will hold up to the elements outdoors.

Christine, thank you so much for this great idea. I do winter sowing and never thought about using freezer tape. I will definitely give this a try in Jan. when I set my containers out with their seeds.

It's worked really well for me. I was surpised how well it worked the first year my taped containers sat out there over winter in snow and rain and still stuck! Now I can hardly do without it, especially for keeping the seeds labeled.

And it would be much easier to write on than what I have been using, Duct Tape.

It sure does, but I think the freezer tape might be a better choice. I will be giving it a try.

I wonder how it would hold up on the plastic I use to cover some of my beds?

I am going to give it a try as a label in the garden and sun.

It will be interesting to see how the writing holds up, especially in the sun.

Yes, that is usually the challege ~ The tape will hold up, but the writing is another story, that's why I try to use pencil in hopes that it won't fade away like many pens will. I know there are some permanent pens that are supposed to hold up. I need to look into that! Thumbs up

One thing I like about the freezer tape is that it doesn't lose its sticky; even when wet.

I have switched to pencils for labelling. But check when you use them on zinc coatings. Some pencils are not carbon apparently and will react with it. Carbon should be relatively inert.

Great suggestion. Where can I purchase freezer tape?

Hi Bellarosa, welcome.

You can usually find freezer tape in the paper goods aisle (where the plastic bags/foil/freezer paper, etc. is) usually near the freezer paper, and I usually find it way down on a bottom shelf. Apparently it doesn't get top 'marketing' space.

It wasn't available in Australia so I bought it from the US (EBay).
