[quote="purpleinopp"]First plant to bloom at my house this year is one of last years' clearance plants. Turns out to be a duplicate color, but if I didn't like it to begin with, I wouldn't already have some from previous years.

(S. truncata)

Hi I am getting started with plant list and I don't know how to link my time zone and picture to my header name? Can you link me to instructions? Thanks!

SALL20 said:For me, it goes back to the type of gardener one is or perceived to be. If one of my friends, who I knew to be a casual gardener, said look at my Christmas cactus!, I would probably admire it and move on. On the other hand, if a friend who I knew was very interested in her plants said that, I might tell her all about the different 'Holiday' cactuses.

My guess is that most people posting here have an interest in gardening and wouldn't take offense at being given information about the plants they grow.

Hi When I post my S.Russelliana I thought was the proper way to recognize the orginate of the plant. Also, I came from a Facebook group that identified the plant with with this name! I want to bring back the true identity of the Holiday cactus! I believe nursery growers made it harder to identify cactus. When the growers called it a Christmas cactus ! How should a rare cactus be identified?

Alisa, your posts were totally OK. My post, that you quoted, was in response to a discussion we were having about the confusion surrounding the different Holiday cactus. I posted pictures of my cacti and called them Christmas cactus, when they are actually S. truncata, or Thanksgiving cactus. I didn't know the difference, but now I do.😀

Hi I was wondering if there is a Holiday cacti database for cactus lovers? The only way now to find growers and cactus plant types are on auction sites (like eBay or etsy). I am trying to find rare colors and plants. It's also, it's hard to find traders from Florida were must colors are. I live on the west coast Holiday cactus sold in stores are mainly Thanksgiving cactus and Easter cactus. It's hard to find true Christmas cactus. Cactus are just given through friends and family! I just got lucky!

All mine have bloomed out for now, but I do have some seed pods forming. I'm anxious to start some from seeds next spring!

All the cactus I see are just stunning! I am now on the hunt for Easter cactus! OMG, I am so addicted! Lovey dubby
