Coconut Repurpose, Orchid Hanging Basket

By RobertB

This time of year here in Florida the last round of coconuts is starting to fall to the ground. Neighborhood kids keep them picked up for the most part, but there are always a few that end up lying around. Here is a little repurpose project that you might find to be fun.

That's just a great way to re-use those husks/shells. I use just the shells to mount some of my orchids but heck, I have to buy them. The closest coconut tree is probably 250 miles south of me. I got the idea of using the shell when I was visiting an orchid farm in Costa Rica. They grew all their thousands of orchid plants in coconut shells rather than in pots. You have taken it a step further. Way to go! Hurray!
