I was in walmart today, and they had only two amaryllis to choose from. Where's a good place to order online?

I think any reliable bulb company like Brent and Becky's are a good source. I ordered three Star of India in December and have them potted for bloom either late this month or early next.

Every year I order quite a few Amaryllis to give as Christmas gifts. I also get a few extra for myself.

Here is a pic of my gifts all lined up on the stairs waiting. I like to pot them close to when I will be giving them away as I want the recipients to enjoy watching them grow.

Here in Utah the big box stores and the full service nurseries get their Amaryllis bulbs in November. I'm sure they want to move most of them by Christmas. By now what they have is mostly left-overs. I was at one of my favorite full service nurseries a few days ago and they their had remaining stock marked way down.

There are several great sources of bulbs on the internet. Expensive, but reliable, are White Flower Farms and Royal Colors. I also like Amaryllis Bulb Company which is located in Florida. These places still have bulbs for sale. Just remember that in January, the bulbs have been sitting in storage for months and may have the beginning of surface disease. Also shipping from overseas and from the Northeast may increase the risk of the bulb freezing .. This late in the season, you may do better ordering from a company that is in the South.
Holly, I think your Peruvian Vera is another name for the cultivar Vera. It looks exactly like the Vera that I have already posted. I'm curious to know where you bought it. Interesting that the supplier added the name Peruvian.

The name of my amaryllis is Vera, there are several different places where amaryllis come from. My Vera comes from Peru. I should have probably said Peruvian Amaryllis "Vera" rather than Amaryllis Peruvian "Vera"
There are also Dutch bulbs and Israeli bulbs. I'm not sure if there are other places they come from those are the only places that I am familiar with. I purchase my bulbs from a Co-op group and we buy from ADR Bulbs the bulbs are just huge. We have been buying them there for years and are very pleased with them the bulbs are just huge. I have picked some up from local stores on occasion and the difference in the bulb size and quality is huge.

Holly - I love your various bloom photos and what a great idea to give some as Christmas gifts! Wished I was on the receiving end of your gift giving! LOL! Thumbs up Lovey dubby

I actually did give one away as a gift in a special pot, but the recipient did not place it in a sunny area and the bulb eventually died. Never did bloom either. I remember her saying how excited she was and how expensive they were. I kept reminding her to place the pot in a sunny window. She never did. I hope all your recipients allowed theirs the proper sunlight and had some gorgeous blooms.

I have a story to tell about gifting Amaryllis at Xmas. I ordered Amaryllis bulbs to be mailed to both of my daughter in laws as an early Xmas gift. Both told me that they never grew and they discarded them. Oh well, won't do that again, just send them cash for Xmas. Hilarious!

Arghhhhhh! Well, I have a similar story with one exception .... my daughter-in-law was given one in a pretty pot by me for Christmas. She was excited because she knows their value. She displayed it proudly, but unfortunately did not put it where there was enough light. It never bloomed and eventually died. (sigh) I did keep reminding her it needed to be on a window sill or displayed on her screened porch to get sunlight. I won't do that again either. She grows other things too that usually don't make it. I think the main problem is the lighting in their house. It's dark where she tries to grow most all her plants. I call them disposable plants! Whistling

I think folks who actually grow and collect them know how to treat them. All others, it's hit and miss .... or just luck. (Or follow the instructions precisely. Hilarious! )
