It was a close call between holy Night (I just love the deep blue-violet color & form) and High Chaparral...which ended up the winner.

Headlines (1959) is my H pick- tough as nails, and such clean, classic look.

This iris looks different depending on the time of day. It can either have red or brown tones.

That is nice choice Bonnie. I like alot of the "Dirty Plicata's" that Gibson put out. Most of Sterlings fall into this category as well!

I have a one or two (I would have to check) of Sterling's plics. It is fun to get away from the purple toned plicatas.

I really like all the choices for "H"! I would be happy with any one of them. Several are going on the wish list.

All my H's are in their maiden bloom year, so my choice for the one I really want to see bloom is Have A Goodun:

Have a Goodun' is so unusual and gorgeous! That dark beard is great!

 

I don't have any Hs but this one is on my wishlist.

I can see what a beautiful clump that would make in a garden.... great warm colors.

Great selections, everyone ! I'm almost ashamed to post my favorite "H"....again, it's an oldie....no ruffles, no lace, kind of "small in the bloom" (but lots of them!), and ,it's a little 'drab", by today's standards....I guess you would say it has "fall colors", and since it is a pretty fair fall bloomer as well, I guess it has the correct name....Halloween Night (National, r.1943):

Again, a tough time choosing only one "H" cultivar out of the available bunch. I can tell you that this exercise next year will be near impossible with the new crop I added last year! OMG!!!!!!

Neal -- I love your photograph. Shows Irises blooming in a field of tall grass -- just the way that God intended, I think!! And the way that I found Irises growing wild when I was a kid. There's a trip down Memory Lane!!

That pic of Haunted Heart doesn't grab you unless you enlarge it, then you can see the details. It's not one that will grab you from a distance, it's one you have to see up close.

I have wanted Haunted Heart for a few years now but sometimes looking at the photos it moves down my list a bit. I guess I need to grow it and see it up close. smiles
