I'm not sure that the Kelvin range or lumen output is of that bulb, but that's sure a lot better than UV. Thumbs up Plants really can't utilize the UV range and genetic changes (plants and people) occur with prolonged UV exposure.

I have one of those in the house -- sitting in a pot on the floor in front of a window. Every winter about this time it drops its leaves (scared me at first) -- and then it comes back with new healthy leaves. Not sure if that is a part of its "normal" routine, but it seems to be at my house.

Ha, are you saying throw out the plant and don't even try to cut off a stem and plant it in a new pot?

Keep in mind that I don't grow this plant and thus have no experience in its care or propagation. To my (old) eyes, I just wouldn't keep butting my head against the wall, trying to salvage such a sick-looking plant. Another thing that concerns me, and this may have been discussed before, is the timing of rooting. Typically, for the plants I am going to air-layer and root cuttings from, I would never do this in the winter. Wait to do it in the spring when the plant comes out of semi-dormancy and when growth begins anew.

Can you air-layer a branch or two and perhaps take a couple of cuttings from another branch or two?

Hopefully, there are those out there that grow/propagate this plant and will know "better" information on what you should do. My suggestions are only based on what I do with the tropical plants I grow and propagate.

There are several plants with that same nick-name, help. The jade is also called the money tree/money plant. The Chinese believed that by putting one outside the front door, good luck and money would arrive! Perhaps you want a small jade on hand before you trash that plant! Most of my indoor tropicals slow down in growth during winter dropping leaves and retain only what it needs to carry on through the colder months, then as Spring rolls in, slowly the growth vigor returns. I usually do my repot in Spring too, but since you have done it already, just let the plant rest and acclimate once more. Sometimes plants hate their roots being disturbed, so it takes awhile to return. I would have avoided giving the plant fertilizer since it is in some kind of stress, but you have already given it. So just have to wait patiently and see if it will try to make new growth soon.

When you see new growth, then you can decide if you wish to trim back the leggy branches or trim back to hard wood, so it can grow new ones in the manner you prefer. But wait for Spring, like in late March to early April to do it.

Good luck on your plant. Smiling

It doesn't really matter how long it has been since watering, the important thing is whether the potting mix is dry, not just the top inch or two, but way down deep. You need to find out. IF it is really dry, go ahead and water, but very lightly. How much depends on how large the pot is and how the potting mix drains.

By the way, perhaps you stated what sort of potting mix you use, but tell me again. Did you re-pot, completely changing out the potting mix? What size pot? What's your light situation now?

Good job! The plant may come back to you by summer's end. My tree doesn't like a whole lot of water. I water every 2 weeks and it is well drained, drying or between watering. Sometimes it gets drier faster in the summer. But not really.
