Oh my, what a beauty! I sure love this one.
I looked up this cross and it seems to be a natural hybrid, but have a look at the possibilities if you like:
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...
I can't get the link to work, but this was the result
Cattleya × cypheri
C. Cypheri (1897)
C. Mariae Piae
C. Reginae
Hadrocattleya cypheri
Laeliocattleya cypheri
Sophrocattleya × cypheri

Genus x cypheri ?

Glen, it is good to see you! Smiling

Good news from OrchidWiz. Glen, your beautiful orchid now has its own name: Cattleya [C.] Reginae (C. forbesii x C. purpurata). I just love the color!

Jim, was this plant that is Gleni' picture the same? Because it looks like a small rup Mexican Laelia when I looked it up. I do not have Orchidwiz though. Gleni has a Bifoliate catt, forbesii has enhanced the lip decor but it still has most purpurata traits. The natural hybrids x cypher may be the same, whereas some take on the forbesii traits and others are more on the purpurata side. But, beware now the cattleya x was made with loggers hi.

Gleni, now that it has a name, take it for judging and get it awarded as I'm that sure it will be! I am very interested in obtaining one, what would you give it as an awarded name? Your got the best of both parents and much deeper saturation of color.

In 2012 the orchid source orchid forum had a good discussion on this natural hybrids that was remade in 1890's and a few years later the catt x was named the same, so now withRHS lumping them all as catts we have two very different hybrids named the same.

Wow, what gorgeous flowers all! I'm loving your Epi cross too, Ursula.

Yes, we have a new grandson born yesterday at a whopping 8lb. 12oz. Will post a pic when I get home. The geeks (my hub and son) are trying to teach me to use Dropbox but my mind isn't up to it. Too tired wrangling the 2yr. old I guess.

Sad to say a few of my orchids at home are suffering some cold weather this week. 😓 I had to leave the auto watering on in case it was warm so that may not be helping their chance of surviving 45deg nights - so glad most are in the bathroom just suffering a bit less light.

Surely your Orchids will be fine, not to worry!

Dropbox works well between my mobile devices, I tested it the other day. When you have more time......

Ken, this is definitely my favorite Dendrochilum, it seems happily putting on new growth year after year. I have it now 12 years or so.

It sure is! We were supposed to have snow showers this morning, but they seemed to have passed us by. The sun came out and it was just cold. Not bad at all.

Baby report: fair to partly cloudy. New little guy is doing splendidly, food is going in and coming out, sleeping pretty well. His big sister has figured out that he is staying so she is not too pleased. C'est la vie!

However, flying kites on a winter afternoon in 56deg. (thankfully for me) is a truly uplifting experience with a 2yr. old seeing this for the first time.

My cat sitter reports we had rain at home so as long as it's not too chilly tomorrow the garden and orchids should do fine.

Found this in the orchid pergola the other day, ready to bloom (Jewel orchid) I checked this evening and the buds haven't opened yet. When they do, I will post another photo.
