I was truly impressed when I saw his post! Now I have to get busy and figure out how to get more acorns. I had 12, then 7, now 2. That won't buy me a dog lover badge or a cat lover badge or… Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

My problem is I just started gardening last summer and have spent most of the summer months creating new beds, rescuing a few plants from the death row section at the nursery, tree removal and building up supplies for W/S. I don't really have any pictures, or knowledge, to share yet. I am really looking forward to next year! Smiling

I love windmills. Spiders, not so much.

I am not a pet person, and learned this only after we got them. Oh, that dog of ours! He was a gift from Grandpa, who thought we needed a guard dog. We still are like, what is there to guard against... those eavesdropping ears of corn?! The time someone came into the mudroom, he just sat and watched her. We had a cat, which was more tolerable, except for the one who was allergic to it.

If I had a pet, it would be a duck. We had a flock of them, but over time, the numbers shrank and we are down to my favorite. She's survived so much, I would not mind her in the house... they make duck diapers to prevent oopses. I think she would kind of flip out, though, not used to an indoor life. It's been years since she was in the house and that was only when she was a duckling. Oh, if only they could stay at that stage. Smiling I'd post a picture, but am already way off topic. Smiling

Oh, my goodness! I'm deeply humbled and grateful. Multiple people contributed with acorns. I certainly did not expect anything - was just reflecting on how to get acorns. Confused

So, thank you, thank you! Thank You! Thank You! You guys are great! Now I can go buy badges! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

The title of the thread is pretty general "Micro badge idea thread". That's why I added my idea, and probably why others did too.

Keith, you can "unwatch" the thread, if you believe you are finished looking/watching it. Look at the top left side of the thread and just click "unwatch".

Of course, who doesn't? Hilarious! You have a micro badge I had never seen before: Avid green pages reviewer.

I am holding off on getting any more badges at the moment. As a new gardener in an aging body, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. Hilarious! Hilarious! Right now, I am investigating forums and I am already learning so much.

Patti, you can take pictures in your neighborhood, at local garden centers, in a friends yard, at public or botanical gardens etc. and upload the photos to the database to earn additional acorns.

If you are unsure or don't know the names of the plants or flowers that you photograph, just post the photos over on the Plant ID Forum: http://garden.org/forums/view/... and I'm sure someone will be able to identify them ... then the pictures can be moved to the database and you will get acorns. Green Grin!

What? NOT making your very first garden plan a 10-year project for a team of five vigorous young body-builders?

You might be the first new gardener EVER to start reasonably with something manageable.

Please keep letting us know how it goes! I'm kind of expecting that that some little-known Garden Tooth Fairy will visit you in the night and suddenly your Year Two Plan will include the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, or 500 wintersowing jugs or breeding hybrid oak trees or planting thousands of bulbs ...

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I am leaving it to NewYorkRita to plant those thousands of bulbs and the hanging Gardens of Babylon have already been done, darn it. I don't know if I'm reasonable, but I am still sane. Hilarious! I need my body to work, and work well, for another 20 years minimum. I call it my "mini-pergola raised bed garden with support for vining plants". Okay, the name still needs work, but if my body can do this in one day, your body can make a garden. You go girl!!! Thumbs up Hurray!

Oh, and for the sake of honesty, I have not actually planted anything in the new bed yet...I'm still resting up. *Blush* Rolling on the floor laughing

You, resting up? I took one look at your frame and thought, "ah! a massage bed in the making!"
Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing The idea of those thousands of bulbs wore me out. Hilarious!

Well, I have no more room for bulbs so I just enjoy the ones that are here now each spring as they come up.

I am now into the tomato growing crazies. I have moved on from planting bulbs to becoming The Tomato Queen.
