@901Bertwood , I've read some complex definitions for luminata, but this simple explanation from Schriener's explains it pretty well: "An Iris whose style arms and hafts are white or yellow, and with veining on falls."
"...and don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." Rumi

Thanks for the well-wishes for my brother. He's OK -- but in a lot of pain. He slipped in the shower and *fell* against the wall, hitting his ribs as he did so. He thought he broke a couple -- turns out nothing's broken, but he has a contusion instead. They said that likely the rib bones themselves are bruised, as well as the surrounding area. Anyone who has had this happen knows that bruised or separated ribs are more painful than broken ones. So they gave him an injection for pain and inflammation, and a prescription for the same and sent him home. He's gonna be taking it reeeeeel easy for a few days. nodding

Thanks, Lucy -- me too.

Ya know -- you never stop learning. I didn't realize until this discussed that Luminatas *usually* have a light colored edging on the falls, and sometimes on the standards as well. My favorites are the ones that have this edging on both -- it makes for a complex visual picture that really entertains the eye. Lovey dubby

Kent -- thanks for posting those early Luminata pictures -- I've never seen those before.

Some of mine are new and haven't bloomed yet -- but I'm gonna post them anyway -- we can never have too much beauty!!

I also have Clarence. I bought it from Lowes many years ago -- it was supposed to be Mother Earth. It was Clarence instead. Even after I'd had it for years, and it had bloomed many times, I didn't realize it was a Luminata. Well -- I didn't know what a Luminata was back then -- this was early in my Iris addiction and I hadn't yet learned about specific patterns.

So here's my Clarence:

Zurbrigg, 1991

Clarence is always the first Iris to bloom for me in the Spring!! Lovey dubby

Double Click:
This is a great Luminata shot because you can look inside the bloom and see the coloration that makes it a Luminata.
