I swear! It is refusing to get above freezing. Nothing is even dripping off the roof yet. It was supposed to be above freezing by 10 a.m. I wish it would hurry up. I wanted everything melted before the next possible winter precipitation arrives next Wed. I'm not enjoying March very much yet.

Amazing that the cattle adapt. We had friends outside Del Rio that had a sheep ranch. We used to help them round up the sheep some weekends when DH was stationed at Laughlin AFB. They're both gone now, but she raised paint horses. When we moved to Austin, they would occasionally bring a horse in for breeding and stay with us. One year, they brought almost a dozen orphaned lambs with the horse. It had turned really cold and we had to move the cars out of the garage and set up an enclosure for the lambs. (We had a Great Dane that thought they would be delicious.) She and I had to get up twice during the night to feed the lambs with formula in adapted Coke bottles. They left about noon and when we went back inside, our dog was trying to take the backdoor off. Our friends had left us two lambs. We had to jump in the car and chase them down. Made them turn around the truck and trailer and come back to get the lambs.

Groan! Moan! Gritch, gritch, gritch! It only reached 33F here today. Not enough to melt the ice covering everything. Now there's a chance for freezing drizzle overnight. The roads still aren't completely clear of ice. Yuck.

Yikes! It's supposed to be near 70F today, but by sundown on Wed. it's currently predicted to be in the 20s and even down in the teens Wed. night. It doesn't look nice at all.

Jay, is the Hotel Dieu still there? I mean that original building in Beaumont. I was born in Hotel Dieu in '43.

There is a great history about the Hotel Dieu. That original hospital in Paris was built before Columbus' discovery of the New World! Much before.

So tired of the drizzle. Although I feel guilty when I talk to my "northern friends". It was in the 50's here today and will be in the 60's tomorrow - then the big chill will hit Wednesday night. Nice that I don't need any heat in either GH tonight though. Only supposed to drop to 56 degrees.

The weather people weren't joking on this latest blast. They delayed the freezing temps a couple of hours, but it arrived here between 2-3 p.m. Stiff north winds blowing a light mist that quickly began freezing on the vehicles, wire and trees and changed to a blowing FREEZING mist before 4 p.m. It's about 28F here with the sun still out and it was in the 50s this morning at sunrise. The roads west are already icing over and it's all expected to get worse. The wind is the big factor. You can't seal yourself enough that it doesn't find somewhere to sneak in. Wind chill is down in the teens now. I hope the wind gives things a break. It's supposed to get above freezing for a little while tomorrow, but barely. I hope it makes it. Like everyone else, I'm really tired of it.

It started hitting us around 3:30 and has been dropping like a rock. Windy and cold, cold, cold. My northern friends can now feel great -- we do get some of this cold stuff too.

It is hitting Mississippi right now. Oddly enough, this (hopefully last) system might be historical.

My wife was listening to talk-radio this morning and the host was interviewing a meteorologist, someone who had been in this field for 50 some odd years. He said in his memory there had never been a 12 hour period that the temperature dropped 50 degrees F in Mississippi (now they say it will drop 52 degrees). We got up to 80F this afternoon and at day break tomorrow it is supposed to be 28F, with a wind-chill in the mid-teens. The next morning we are supposed to get down into the teens. I don't even want to thank about the wind-chill that morning.
