First term this morning is Throat. A brief explanation of throat is the colored area in the center of the bloom that surrounds and contains the stamen and pistil.
Little Bo Peep Diploma has a small bright green throat.


Mandarin Firecracker has an orange throat...


and Three Rivers Gold a yellow throat.


After starting my daylily seedlings inside over the winter in treetrays I transplant them outside in May. Transplanting is always a fun time, warm sun, radio blasting and all the cross tags to read while planting... wondering what the seedlings will look like when they bloom the next year. I always have my idea what they should look like.... the seedlings will have their own

Treadmill, using the treadmill a half hour a day during the winter is a great help so I don't feel like a weeble with the wheelbarrow in the spring

I have two ready, triploid and thrips. Thrips with an s is both singular and plural. As for thermometer, we've warmed up to -21C (-7F) now, from an overnight low of -27C (-17F).

The round ones are the urediniospores ("summer spores") of daylily rust and the elongated ones are teliospores ("winter spores"). We had a laugh on the AHS Robin years ago when someone said the teliospores looked like chicken legs, but it's true, they do.

Tetraploid conversion
Does anyone know someone that makes tetraploid conversions for other people that don't want to use dangerous chemicals?

I'm afraid that I don't have much to offer today, but I will throw this out there as part of the discussion on throats.

Adams supposedly hybridized a daylily with a "metallic gold yellow" throat, which he named 'Lynn's Gold Throat'. (Lynn was a relative who was searching the seedling patch with him, who found the seedling which was to bear her name. I remember that much of the description in his catalog.)

I never bought the plant, I never saw the plant (just the description in his catalog; I can't remember a picture but he must have had one), so I have to wonder if the "metallic gold yellow" was really a throat, or maybe just a metallic eye that was down in the throat - or else maybe just extreme gold dusting (which did not manifest on the rest of the flower surface - at least, not as gold). It's too bad there isn't a picture of it in the AHS or ATP database. (I did try a Google search for it, but could not find a picture anywhere.)

My daylily "T" word will be Tepals, that includes the petals and the sepals. A band is on the petals only, but an Eye marks the petals and the sepals, or Tepals are marked by an eye.

How about 'T' for temperature and the effect it has on daylily growth - both bloom and fans.

Ashton and Terry - I wish I knew! I have a diploid seedling that I would like converted.

Larry - how could I forget tepals?!!! Back in the early days, polymerous daylilies were referred to as "polytepals".

Tall dayliliy strong scapes! I like some tall daylilies in my garden they are easy to see from a distance.

How about 'Testimonials'? When I first got interested in daylilies (as opposed to passionate which I now am!) I looked on the forum to see how each plant I was considering buying performed for you all, especially those in cooler areas. Thanks to you guys I have some amazing plants.
