I had a midday deer attack on my back bed just a few minutes ago. My Orbit device was off since I obviously don't leave it on when I'm out in the garden. I was just in the kitchen feeding the cats when I looked out the window and spotted the buck. I raced out the back door screaming and the buck took off from the crazy lady. Four or five others sprang out of the bushes from my neighbor's yard and also ran off. About 4 plants were totally cleaned off and a couple more snacked upon. It is amazing how fast they can chow down. Grumbling

Oh no, Jill, that is terrible.
I have used Bobbex spray for many years and it has worked well for me. Maybe combine a spray repellent with your Orbit.

Valerie I do spray with Bobbex. Everything has been sprayed repeatedly. But this time of year the young bucks travel in a pack are definitely hooligans.

The problem with sprays, I'm told, is because the youngest Bambis do not develop their taste buds until they are mostly grown. I had a very persistent doe a few years ago with a tiny youngster who didn't mind the taste of anything that was sprayed on….I tried them all. It's a mystery how they know which are the ones that cost you an arm and a leg and go directly to those!

I have noticed the young ones will try things the older deer avoid. Luckily, I have not had them sample anything sprayed with Bobbex. Crossing Fingers! that continues!
I once had a young one eat milkweed, and a lot of it Hilarious!

Jill vs young bucks part 2.

I was sitting on my patio just now and I looked up to see a buck looking down at me from behind the back bed. I chased him and 2 of his friends. They snacked on some hostas in my woodland garden at the top of the hill which is no big deal. They are naughty teenagers. My bloom season might come to an early end. Sad

I feel everyone's pain. Yesterday I chased a young doe out of my Annabelle hydrangea, in the middle of the afternoon. She looked very offended! Last night she returned to finish her meal. I am putting Vicks Vaporub stakes around all the hydrangeas this afternoon, too late for the rest of the daylilies. I've used Deer Off and Liquid Fence repeatedly and clearly both are no longer very efficacious.

kennysh said: I use Vicks Vapor Rub, on fence, on post, a few leaves, stick put in the ground near plant. Some people put it on small pieces of felt.
Usually once a month, depending on how much rain fall, holds up pretty well. I usually start after scapes have started Thumbs up Smiling

I promised to report success or failure with the Vicks Vaporub method and am happy to report success. I "tested" by putting Vicks smeared stakes around some plants and beds and not around others in mid-July. I still have daylilies blooming in the bed with stakes and those in beds without have been chewed nearly to the ground, in spite of anything else I've used. We've had quite a bit of rain over the past month so sprays haven't worked at all. I'm going to buy more Vicks and more stakes and stake out all the beds. Thumbs up and Thank You! kennysh for the tip.

Your are welcome, 2dogsmother.
I would use it when needed most, and then stop for awhile or they my get used to it and not be as effective. Or use other things for a little while. Thumbs up Shrug! Smiling
