Do you need an easy and inexpensive way to make sturdy and long-lasting arbors that can be used to grow most climbing plants? I've got just the project for you!

Thread OP

Is cutting the panels in half (their height dimension/width of the arbor) just a matter of preference, or is there a more practical reason for it? It seems to me, for some plants (e.g., larger 'climbing' roses), would appreciate the full 50" width. Btw (and I'm sure you're used to hearing/reading it), from the views provided here you have a beautiful yard. Thanks for the article.

Certainly, you could keep the panel as a whole piece. I cut them right down the middle of the length because I didn't think a rose or vine would cover that much of the panel, but you are correct that there are many roses (especially grown up north) that have a very nice wide spread and would be beautiful grown across a 50" width! If you were to do that, I would suggest using 4" x 4" wooden posts instead of the smaller wooden landscape timbers.

Thanks also for the kind compliment about my yard. Forever a work in progress! Smiling Thank You!
