I did some more iris clean-up today and went to Intermountain Farmers and got a 50# bag of alfalfa pellets which I will start to spread tomorrow. I drove by a neighbors house and spotted an iris in bloom on the south side of her house. I gave her a start probably over 30 years ago. It is SDB Canary Isle from Melba Hamblen.

That is a sweet little iris Paul. I planted the SDB Little Surprise I got Sunday. I made some headway in weeding. If it were not for the weeds, and still a few leaves about, my garden would be beautiful right now.

Paul, Isn't it nice to see your Iris children doing well in their other homes?

I've been weeding, raking, and tidying.. Planted all the SDB's I had in pots into a raised planter. Checked gopher traps. Picked more asparagus... and weeded some more.. Damn things hide everywhere.. Dug up a Storm Cloud Agapanthus that a shrub was starting to cover, and moved it to another spot... and pulled more weeds..
The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.

I went to work and when I got home I took some pictures of Bottle Rocket and Full Tide they are my first named bearded iris to bloom in 2015 . Hurray! The blooms are starting a few weeks earlier than last year.

I'm looking forward to seeing your Bottle Rocket! I bought one from Stout's last year...but it was very small so I'm not sure it will bloom this year. Shrug!

The high will be 55 with rain today. I am not complaining as we are not having extreme weather conditions like some others of you are. I will not get much done in the iris garden but I stayed out most of yesterday so it is easier to be indoors today. My irises, with the exception of two so far, are looking very healthy. The bees are working the plum tree blossoms, the flowering quince, forsythia, flowering almond and all the little blooming weeds I have not pulled yet. The daffodils and late crocus are putting on a great show and I have a tiny little purple iris that I got from and ATP member that is almost ready to open. I have not checked out the local or world news in over a week so I will have to say..... life is good.

Just got back from shopping. Bought a new trellis for my Clematis, it's two semi circles. I have this Rogachi that gets reallly tall, and I need some way to trap it to keep it from falling over onto other things. It's about 6 ft tall, so it should hold most of it. Got it put in place, now going to see if it's warm enough to work in the beds for a while.

I had that one on my list for so long that I went ahead and ordered it this spring. Just had to have it.

Raspberry Ice is a gorgeous SDB. Nice plicata. Clumps up quickly and has a long bloom season.

I like the rose color. There are not many SDB's of that shade of pink. I like the beard also. It looks a little rusty. I hope mine grows as well here, Paul.

I'm making Raspberry Ice a bonus request from Stout.

It's balmy here today, but I have to work in the studio . Tomorrow I'll weed some more.

For the past 3 hours I have been hand watering my backyard and iris beds. I still have the side yards and front yard to do.

Everything is so dry!

On a good note, I've noticed the beginnings of bloom stalks on several irises. Hurray! On a bad note, I will run and hide from my water bill. Sighing!
