I love this zygo a lot! Because of that scent and its tolerance of our cold winter temps. Though a bit of a water hog the rest of the year Big Grin

Mine lives on the porch. That scent would overwhelm my small house. My Zygo isn't showing any sign of blooming yet, this year, but it usually does twice a year. I do have a hybrid Zygo in bloom, but no noticeable scent. Can't find the picture right now.

Lovely photos Sue! Lovey dubby

That's a lovely light purple Zygo Carol! I find Zygos water hungry and loves being cool..it is one orchid I can safely leave outdoors in my growcamp during winter. Seems to like to get that chill for Spring blooming Smiling Then lots of water in the warmer drier months. I only get it to bloom in Spring when temps are still cool.

Interesting to hear that the zygos can live outside - may have to try them...

Sue, still love the "distant drums"... and glad that you noted the Kordes - was trying to remember that name, so I can look for them.

Liz, The Zygos should be fine outside in your area...as long as they are under something to protect them from frost. They are a very forgiving orchid.

I didn't realize that there were scented orchids. Will have to look for one to get Big Grin

Kelli - love your amaryllis - my 2 clumps only have about 3 unopened blooms each, but am looking forward to get a patch looking like yours.

I got three orchids with lovely scents..the zygo which is currently in bloom, then there is Maxillaria tenuifolia - smells like coconut and Oncidium 'Sharry Baby' smells like chocolate. But right now only the zygo is in bloom..hopefully by May the other two will try again, though Sharry Baby was in bloom last Christmas, rather off the usual time for it to bloom.

I did. I was surprised at the variety, even in a bad drought year.

I can tell that it's Spring here...the first dandelion, the first white clover today, the Creeping Buttercup, it's all popping up...what my neighbors will be calling weeds and cursing me, I call food for the birds, bees, and butterflies. There's actually quite a lot of 'wild' right around here, but the immediate neighbors tend to mow EVERYTHING down....

Our yard is looking pretty growed up. ('Growed up' is how we talked in PA. It comes from Scottish.) The grass is o.k but the shrubs are large. The neighbors tend to take out large shrubs in the front yard but we aren't going to do that. DH is self conscious about it but I don't care much. At least we don't have three dead redwoods in the front yard. Just keep the stuff off the sidewalk is all that is necessary, IMO.

We thought the red hot poker had died out in the drought but it is back.

yep...the drought brings our attention to which plants really are the toughest. I used to find out which plants really are tough when deciding they had to go and ruthlessly, rudely pulling them out and finding they survived without having to be carefully dug and transplanted.
