So I had all these many rose clippings in piles around the garden after pruning my roses. Some I had already dragged to the woodsy area and put under/behind the boxwood. But today finished and got all the rest of the clipping back there. Many are large branches!

So I make a brush pile. It is nice and thorny if not very tall. It is out of the way and not bothering anyone there so I am curious to see if any birds or such find it interesting.

Now that it's showing its first bloom, it looks like my miniature 'Daniela' is actually a regular sized Kordana Daniela. It's quite lovely though without scent. Do we have it in our database already?

All of your flowers & roses are beautiful! Spring looks good on you!

We do now. Big Grin

Rose (Rosa 'Daniela Kordana')

The miniature Daniela we already had in the database is an apricot blend. This one's also a miniature, but it has relatively large blooms.

Well, I took some photos after the rain and the roses actually survived better than I expected, though I did loose the first flush on several of the plants.

Happy Roses Week!

It got very cold (ha!) here for a second, hints of drizzle, even!

Here're the roses that are bloomin' or thinking about bloomin' now:

Julie, your roses are beautiful.
I guess my roses might be thinking about blooming....hopefully by sometime in June! I had to cut so many so far back that it seems unfathomable that they will ever be big enough to bloom again. . Sighing!

Graham Thomas has reached the top of the satellite pergola, should look great once it gets into full bloom. One vine in the back left has also reached the top, front left lavender trumpet vine is slowly growing. Front right has a newly planted clematis and the back pole has a lavender 'Ramona' clematis. Behind it is a tall blue blooming salvia and the white blooming shrub with the golden foliage is Choisya ternata Sundance

Sue, everything looks stunning! Summer Song is gorgeous, and an Austin that somehow got by me...or maybe that was a brain cell that went *poof*. Is it a vigorous grower?

Getting close here, I'll be seeing buds any day now...

Summer Song was gorgeous the one summer I had it. So many colors blended together, as changeable as a sunset. Neil, I don't think it was a very vigorous rose, because Austin doesn't carry it anymore. I think Sue can grow anything, no matter how weak.
Yesterday I replaced my Francis Meilland rose with a new one. Today, i see growth in the bottom inch of the one I thought I lost. There are rose duplicates in several places in my yard, and I don't know if it's my impatience, or lack of faith, or just putting a new rose next to the old one threatens it enough that it comes back to life!

Cindi, I wondered about that. Noted in the data base the year it was introduced and kept thinking I should have seen it offered. This climate does a real number on roses that don't have an iron clad constitution.

Thanks Neal! Summer Song for me is tall and lanky and it might be the location. It may eventually get moved to try a different spot but I love the strong rich color.
In my garden, I favor Kordes and Austin roses, those seem to do the best for me.

That color is gorgeous. Austins are hit and miss here, but I've had more misses with them. Kordes, however, are good performers here.

Location does play a huge role with some roses. I moved two roses, 'Sweet Chariot' and 'Rainforest' from where I originally sited them because they were spindly, little runts. Now, both plants are thriving. I probably moved them 10 feet from the original site. I planted 'Paloma Blanca' and 'Shafira Asma' where I had the other two roses. They are slow to take off, but they are doing much better than SC and 'Rainforest' in that site.

Also, in this garden it takes a rose three to four years to come into its own. It doesn't matter if it is budded or own root, but I think that is because of my soil.

Cindi ... I didn't know 'Francis Meilland' was a weak rose. I've been yearning for that rose. I guess I'll take it off of my wish list. I don't want any roses I have to coddle. I am getting too old for that ... Whistling

Smiles,
Lyn
