as well, let the slug/snail season begin! here in seattle we are setting records for the warmest winter/spring ever. hence, the night chewers have come back in droves! some of our 71 hostas are being shredded as we speak. its really a sight to behold; but we still love them none the less!

Here's a few pics from my gardens. Supposed to have some cold evening temps for a week, so these may be the last pics I post for a while! Grumbling

Ticker - on occasion we get ones that are nearly 5 inches long and as big around as an average pickle. but mostly they're just 2-3 inches long and no bigger round than a tootsie roll.

Rose1656 - I love that Deliverance Hosta!! I don't recall ever seeing one before. the colors are fantastic!

I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database! Plant Identifier
I lost quite a few hosta over the winter so I don't have that many really now. I had them potted because they were small but I guess they rotted, the crowns were mushy and didn't sprout. The ones I had planted in the ground did ok, most of those I don't have names on, they are NOIDs. I am not going to overwinter anymore hosta in pots. ! I lost Liberty, Sagae, A.Drinking Gourd, Stained Glass, Victory and Sum and Substance. The ones I have in the ground are on the east side of my house and I have to water them by hand even when it rains because the house shelters them, such a pain the summer, but I think this will be good for the winter to help w the rot. Only thing is they did get snow on them, that is strange. I have some NOIDs planted under a hemlock, will see how that goes... I know they don't do well under larger maple trees-I had two of those in the area and we cut them down. They are pretty if you have the space for them, but not in small yards if you want a garden, they are too invasive. I planted some Cleveland pears and I hope they will provide shade w/o too much root invasion.

Hi, Paul
I am a hosta lurker. I am more active on the daylily forum but I do love my hosta! I don't have to many but grew to appreciate them because my late sister was a collector. I donated several of hers to the local arboretum. A last request. She would get so excited to see the pips coming thru each Spring.

Frillylilly, sorry about your losses. This past winter has been one to remember or forget!

Wow, I have never seen a slug much over an inch. What do you use for those monsters?

Paul, which Lakeside are your favorites?

I got a rescue hosta that I really like from a friend and would love to have its ID. When I get around to it I will try and take a picture.
