I lost quite a few hosta over the winter so I don't have that many really now. I had them potted because they were small but I guess they rotted, the crowns were mushy and didn't sprout. The ones I had planted in the ground did ok, most of those I don't have names on, they are NOIDs. I am not going to overwinter anymore hosta in pots. ! I lost Liberty, Sagae, A.Drinking Gourd, Stained Glass, Victory and Sum and Substance. The ones I have in the ground are on the east side of my house and I have to water them by hand even when it rains because the house shelters them, such a pain the summer, but I think this will be good for the winter to help w the rot. Only thing is they did get snow on them, that is strange. I have some NOIDs planted under a hemlock, will see how that goes... I know they don't do well under larger maple trees-I had two of those in the area and we cut them down. They are pretty if you have the space for them, but not in small yards if you want a garden, they are too invasive. I planted some Cleveland pears and I hope they will provide shade w/o too much root invasion.
