Lynn, no ... that's a heavy stone pitcher I picked up a few years ago from either Wal-Mart or Big Lots (can't remember) with a little plant just sitting down inside it. The cream pitchers are ceramic/porcelain type ... wish I had a photo.

Oh, RRM...I told you I have gotten deep into the study of essential oils! Of course I have Camphor in stock; that and about 60 others Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

What I do is about two weeks before I know I am bringing a container inside, I put a drop of Camphor on a rock that I sit on the soil in the container. I repeat every three or four days to chase the little buggers off as they hatch and viola, when it is time to bring them in, no gnats!

I have used it on houseplants as well. I don't know where those nasty little gnats come from but I get them at least twice a year. Well, I did anyway; now I don't get them at all. Every week or two (I don't always remember to do it) I put a drop of Camphor on the rock. I have eliminated my household gnat problem with this method.

This container is not out in my garden, it sits on my lanai. My neighbor had planted a couple of fox tail palms in her yard a few years ago and they did not survive the winter. They left the dead trunks out in the yard until this spring when the roots rotted enough to just knock the trunk down. I took one of the trunks, cut the trunk down to about two feet then turned it upside down. It was already hollow inside so there was no need to drill drainage holes. I just plopped one of my plastic pots down into and and voila! I have a really unique planter! :)

Found an old flour sifter and a small tea kettle at thrift store to use as planters. The sifter has a green wooden handle and thought it might be an oldie, paid 45 cents for it.

Hi Sally. That is an impressive planter. The texture and layers are so interesting and I love the bright orange flowers with the dark colored wood. What a great idea. Thumbs up

Pegi don't forget before and after photos. We can't wait to see them.

Here is one I just planted the other day. I found the old wooden shoe at a yard sale years ago.

I'll take pics, the tea pot is a small one, but it will be cute planted with something. So disappointed that Lowe's didn't save me any cute plants on their clearance table. Hilarious! I think I have a blue, tea kettle, one out under the patio that I could plant things in too. I have another old one that belonged to my grandmother, but don't think I'm ready to use that for a planter. I also have a ceramic tea pot, minus lid, from the 30's. Have to look that one up too. I think I'm on a roll. Hilarious!

Thank so much Lori. So very much. I will go over to the link Lynn provided and hope I'll find your link to your store so I can purchase some.

Sally, that is just an awesome planter. Great idea.

Lynn, I think we should have a tea pot thread. With looking at all of these, I know I can rummage thru my cabinets and find some of my mothers that she left to me. What an awesome way to use them. She was a gardener and a half. I think she had 10 green thumbs and fingers. Sure miss her.

Great thread Trish! Have you done any containers yet?
