It was the one thing that amazed me when I visited the Southern California Plumeria Society in San Diego for the first time. I was greeted by a loud gasp when I said our plumeria in Southern Florida start blooming at the end of March; I found out that over there May would be considered REALLY early, and more commonly July and onwards is when they get their best blooms. Our best month is May. In July - August - September we get so much rain that we mostly get lots of leaves, green growth, and - yes - rust...

Hetty, do you use a preventative for rust or just treat when you see it? What your go-to fungicide for your plumeria?

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Sighing!

I have never had much of it and the vast majority of my plumeria have absolutely no sign of it. I see so many people spraying their plants regularly (not necessarily plumeria, but orchids and the like) that I sometimes think I must be doing something wrong. I never use algaecides, pesticides, fungicides, or miticides on my plants. I do use snail bait (when I think about it) and wash down my greenhouses with an outdoor bleach solution before I start bringing in everything in the fall.

I have used a pesticide for the first time this year because I had a nasty spider mite infestation. My yard is virtually chemical free and I intend to keep it that way as much as possible.

That's the way I like/want to grow too, Hetty. Vegetables and tropical plants and the rest of my landscape.

I'm using a professional product for my spider mite infestation. But neem oil is said to be effective. Important is to treat several times with a few weeks interval to make sure you get the critters AND their eggs.
Epsom salt should green up your leaves very rapidly.

Love that Aussie Orange and oh my, Mango Blush is gorgeous too! My one Plumeria tree has rust (or whatever those ugly orange dots/spots all over the reverse side of the leaves are called) but it's finally budding up! I think someone identified this for me a couple of years ago as 'Intense Rainbow'. Hetty, was it you? I've just kept it labeled as possibly 'Intense Rainbow' since I'm not sure.

That's exciting Mark, I don't think I've seen a bloom for that variety yet. Thumbs up

Ken you are lucky with no rust I agree with Hetty, it is part of life here. I don't treat mine but I do trim the leaves to remove rust when I can. I think I'm a month behind Hetty on blooms.

Tarev, the inflo of your yellow plumeria is doing well, you will Most likely see a bloom in a couple weeks.

Lin Thank You! what you have is beautiful too. The bud stage does resemble the one in the database posted by Hetty

Hurray! Hurray! my first ever (self-germinated) seedling inflo, a Mauia seedling from 8-2012. This could mean that my other 65+ seedlings are getting ready to hopefully show inflo.

I am still trying to figure out what that "nub" on my seedling is. No one bothered to give me a guess last time I posted pictures. It has grown a bit and I still can't tell. Perhaps those of you with seedling "experience" will know or at least be able to guess what this nub is I'm seeing.

Seedlings often throw a 'false inflo' or 'nub' the first time around. It does create new branches so you have more chances of real blooms next year.
