1-1/2" so far and now the thunder is deafening. My tree looks safe on the ground, actually.

Plumeria are kind of like kids. They are used to falling down.

You might want to trim off some of the bigger leaves to make the plant less susceptible to being blown over.

I got the tree uprighted, only a few leaves broke off. Roots are growing through the drain holes about 2". Time for a new pot? That would help it from being top heavy. That pot's gonna be a big mother!!

I know some people with large trees in pots will drive a piece of rebar through the pot into the ground so it will not topple over as easily.
Also - I would not repot now. I would wait until spring and prune the roots at that time.

Thank you for your hints, @Hetty. They are much appreciated. I will find a spot to anchor it to the ground. The pot sits near an expansion joint on the driveway. I think it will anchor there perfectly! A dormant tree is not this much trouble! The soil sits about 6"- 7" below the rim of the pot. I will wait til next year, lift the plant, trim the roots and add more soil below it. This is the tree from my dear friend who has passed away. I cherish it. If DH had run over this one, he wouldn't be here to tell about it!

Cheryl you are too funny! You remind me of me, my feisty side surfaces when DH messes with my plumerias.

At least your DH does not "accidentally" give your plumerias away. He gave away one of my newly purchased Divine plumeria to someone who keeps thanking me for the "beautiful" multi-tip orchids...

You should put them in ground with container..they look old enough to maybe with stand any weather..but that's a big risk..

I wish I could, @Mark619. As you might guess from my screen name sun is hard to come by at my home exposure and the driveway is the spot for basking in the sun. We have several large trees in the yard and are set in the middle of a forest. Yes, it is a leaf nightmare in the fall. Actually, that particular tree was in the ground years ago when the trees in the yard were small and we got some sun. Fortunately, it was able to survive several dramatic freezes in our area and become the tree it is today, with the help of ATP. It bloomed for the first time last year.

A downpour! Love to see rain even in pictures, have not seen that kind of volume in a very, very long time..sorry about the downed tree though.

...and another tree fall. This time a branch broke off, new growth and too new to plant. If this rain will only stop long enough for me to drill through the bottom of the pot to get it anchored into the ground!! Maybe tomorrow. We should be dry until the 4th.

Let it callous, we are having sporadic rains too. So this past June bloom I actually just stuck a couple cuttings in the pot (perlite and potting soil) but kept the pot dry. The leaf started clawing out and when we had 5 days of sunny forecast, put it where the pot gets sun and now it is promising...no rot. Then again, I have kept the pot on the dry side.

Really? @Gigiplumeria? It's currently callousing in the trashcan. I guess I will dig it out. I take a pic and let you see it for a real "diagnosis". It is from my special 20+ year old tree that I am sure you are tired of hearing about. Sure would be nice to have a "spare".

The cutting broke where it is more on the green side (less mature) but I have mine shorter than what you have and I thought it will not root but it did! Grow baby grow and my motto and keep it Dry Dry Dry...until leaves start sprouting. I take a. Pic every week to see the progress

Finally got the chance to take a photo of the shortest Hausten White cutting. My normal Hausten White Cuttings are normally 12 to 16 inches long if single tipped to give it better chance of rooting and flowering same year or following season. This one broke when one of my bigger plumerias was blown away by the wind. I didn't expect this to survive so I just stucked it on my succulent pot with dirt and forgot about it. Now leaf is clawing out. This is a little over 3 and slightly less than 2 inches above soil line.



This is a dwarf pink Singapore that is 3 1/2 inches tall or slightly over 2 inches above the soil line that I rooted on purpose. Very slow grower since I rooted this earlier than the HW. It looks like instead of leaf it is trying to produce an inflo.



This is the 2nd shortest HW cutting, just a little over 3 inches above the soil line. Since these are normally large trees, I don't think I will see any bloom on the short HW until 2 to 3 years. It is like growing these from seeds. It needs to achieve its full normal length before it can bloom.
