I think that is great to preserve the history of daylilies.
I have a collection as well. My grandfather started collecting daylilies in the 1940's. Before 1980 he had over 600 different DL's in his garden. My dad had 410 registered DL's pre 1980. Our problem is that in relocating them several times over the years we have lost track of the names of many. I want to put the named plants and some I am adding into a heritage bed. I am also collecting species DL's for the bed. I want to have at least 1 cultivar for each decade since the first registered in 1892. I need plants for the two decades 1900-1919. I have some for all other decades to 1980.

Cindy - Every time I see Best of Friends.... I like it more and more!

How would one ever pick from all of these? Even if you narrow it down by ev, sev, or dor that you could actually grow with success in your garden? There are just too many to pick from!!!!

I love the picture of Theron I saw recently. It's a great-looking flower. I think having a 'Heritage' bed is a great idea, personally.

What is the first red daylily? Did it have a simple name like "Red1"?

I have both Mary's Gold and Buttered Popcorn. They both create quite an impression at first glance.

Yellow Ducky is also a bright one. It is at the front corner of my house so I see it coming home from work every day and it just makes me smile.

Vickie - You have some really PREMIUM older daylilies. Some of them are very hard to find now. How can hybridizers improve upon some of those? I don't think they can. And then I read that many are rust resistant. It is disappointing that many of the older cultivars are becoming extinct. Hold on to those, as I am sure they will be heirloom daylilies some day and be much sought after once again. I think you have an excellent collection in your yard! Hurray! Thumbs up
