Hey! Looks like D. carota is NOT illegal where I live. Other areas of the state, yes, but not here! Yea!

I think it would be fun to plant all three to compare them! If I can get seeds for all of them, I'm going to try that next spring. Smiling

Aw, thanks, Charleen, but I think I want to get known seeds, so I'll be able to figure out which one I like best. Hee hee, and a poor seedling would freeze before it got here! Supposed to get down to 28 here on Monday! Brrrr!

Queen Anne's Lace (Dauca carota) occasionally have a pinkish tint to them, I don't know why, but suspect it may have something to do with the ph levels in the soil. The one in the pic is quite amazing! And yes, both pics are D. carota.

Queen Anne's Lace is nice as a wildflower.
Here, it attracts the carrot rust fly so we must keep it away from the carrots.
The carrot rust fly is prevalent in older parts of the city.
We can cover the carrots with row covers,
or plant sage and other herbs to confuse the fly.

I do not think I have ever heard of that pest , must not be around here or just haven't found me yet.
What damage do they do ? Do they lay larva and eat the leaves? or worse Confused

The larvae of the Carrot Rust Fly makes tunnels in carrot roots. I have them here, apparently. Thumbs down I like the QAL though;it's food for the beautiful Black Swallowtails and it attracts the helpful Ladybug and Lacewing. I do try to deadhead, at least, any that show up in the tended parts of my yard. I'd prefer they stay in the meadow and along the trails instead. They're nearly impossible to dig out of the garden.
