Thanks everyone for your info. I did google Iris psuedacorus and I am sure that is what I have. I will continue to remove the seed pods to keep this plant from overtaking everything else.

I cut the foliage back on mine even I am going to replant them right then. The purpose of that for me is too allow the plant to develop a root system to hold itself up. If I leave the foliage it is usually top heavy, falls over, gets blown over and then I have to keep replanting the silly thing and it lays there and dries up!

New plants of them is illegal here & we took out our old plants, although that is not necessary.

I have replanted many of the Iris rhizomes on my road bank. In the future I will be sure to cut the seed pods off before they dry up and open. I have a lot more of them that I am just going to dig up and throw. The ones behind the garage I want out of there so that I can plant double Hollyhocks in their place. I also have more of them in my raised bed which are going to be coming out of there so that I can plant other flowers there. Thank you all so much for your input on this invasive Iris.
