Patrick....I knew I would get some kickback from other members over my comparison between the alfalfa pellets vs. the organic alfalfa meal. I am not trying to change anyone's mind here. But from my experience using both forms of alfalfa, there is absolutely no comparison. Hands down the organic meal was far better as far as growth, and color of the blooms. As far as price goes, consider this. If 1 50 lb bag of the 'organic' alfalfa meal lasted me 2 1/2 yrs, how many bags of alfalfa pellets would you buy in that same time frame?? One bag of the pellets lasted me a month for 244 daylilies and sdlgs! And if you are lucky enough to find the alfalfa meal around your area, you are ahead of the game. My neighbor next door who has a 2nd home here, lives outside of Boston. Her husband found the meal at a local 'Agway' store, and was fortunate enough to get the last of 2 bags they sold.

Some photos from today. I know, I had some of these cultivars in the July blooms, but, well, it's August now Whistling

'Fairly Tale Pink' with an interesting bit of extra tissue:

'Orchid Corsage'

'Russian Easter' with a few raindrops

The standard VLa daylily, 'Sandra Elizabeth'

'So Lovely' with a bit of a bad petal day - I asked on another thread whether people see spring sickness on this one, thanks for the answers. It's one of the most ss prone here and for other people but once it's got over that it flowers well and the foliage is better than most late into the season.

'Real Wind'

'Blackberry Sherbert'

'Autumn Minaret', tall and elegant yet very windfirm

Beautiful blend of colors in Rainbow Over Georgia. Nice clump shot of Autumn Minaret Sooby.

Only a few to add tonight, rain showers late yesterday afternoon had me running in and out trying to get a few shots between raindrops.

Childhood Treasure, nice round golden blooms on a shorter plant for the front of the border.

Shores of Time and sibling Leslie Renee.

Witch Hollow and parent West of the Moon.

Char....Had enough rain in the last 24 hrs? Yesterday afternoon we had 60 mile an hour winds and hail. Well, that did a number on the gardens. Wiped half my garden out. Then today, again, we have had several heavy rain storms. Enough, already....stop!

Char...I love the deep red in 'Witch Hollow'. Beautiful. Also, the pleated sculpted form of 'Love Comes Quickly'. Lovely flower.

Below are the wet daylilies blooming in my garden today.

Very nice blooms! Love Indigo Edge. 60 mph winds! Whew! That would scare me into the basement.

Char, I love your pictures of Witch Hollow and West of the Moon. Beautiful reds and love the comparison. Those names are awesome too.

Thank you Vickie and Becky.
Yes, I've had enough rain Alex. We've had showers nearly every day for the past 3+ weeks. Strangely they hit either overnight, really early morning or late afternoon....leaving me to pollinate without any problems, lots of white tags fluttering in the breeze Big Grin
Indigo Edge is looking really good this year, Alex, remember your images last season. What a pretty centerpiece Chuck. Never Been Kissed, an intro from Bob Carr. I've always liked his daylilies, most of the ones I've tried growing have done well here.

A few for tonight....

Adorable Tiger, colors are not as intense as previous years. The spot it is in is getting more shade, needs to be moved I guess.

Two cute little blooms on Le Petit Saboteur

Outrageous, intensely bright bloom, you can't miss it.

Still Mornings Mist, a soft feminine pink on a great plant.

Strength of Purpose, another fabulous purple from Curt.

and a few sculpted forms...

Catching My Breath, looking good in the afternoon sun.

We Dare to Bare, another one of those...wonder where that name came from?

What a Relief, held up nicely to one of our downpours a few days ago.

Wonder of it All, another pretty daylily from Bob Carr.

Chuck, Never Been Kissed made for a very nice centerpiece. Love the use queen ann's lace and Russian sage for the bouquet.

Char, as soon as I saw Still Mornings Mist I liked the color, but I couldn't put a finger on what color to call it. So I looked it up and the description says 'ethereal soft orchid pink self'. No wonder I couldn't think of the color! I've never seen the word 'ethereal' used in the description of a daylily before. These are from yesterday, still have a few blooming. I need to add a couple lates. I have added many that are suppose to have instant rebloom or Northern rebloom, and hope when they settle in, that I will have more late bloom in the future. I have posted pics of these before, so I'm not listing the names.

All the rain this week, and drop in night time temps by 20 degrees, has produced some interesting color variations. Some of these blooms I have shown before but the color makes a dramatic change with the cooler nights.

'Itty Bitty Blue' - The smallest daylily I grow in my garden. So sweet.

'Ann Hathaway's Garden' - Here the eye has changed from pink to lavender.

'Buddy's Victoria Jade' - With the cooler temps, out come the white teeth around this beautiful bloom.

'Princeton Silky' - Pretty in pink.

'Baja California'- This is the 2nd bloom on this plant. Vibrant and lovely. I am at least 2 weeks behind where I would normally be at this time of year with my bloom season.

'Tides Roll In' - Cooler temps have sharpened the eye pattern on this one, and emboldened the edges. Nice.

And from my sdlg. bed yesterday, this beautiful bloom appeared again in all its glory. 6.5" bloom.

Alex - What a difference in bloom colors! I had to look twice at some of your photos. How interesting! Thanks for sharing those photos. Wow! I LOVE your seedling bloom. That is gorgeous! Do you know the parentage? I really, really like it! One for you to definitely keep and assess. Thumbs up Hurray! Hurray!
