Jo: My Hoya carnosa's bloom during the summer but I have others that bloom in winter months. I feed my Hoya's sporadically during the summer months with bloom booster orchid plant food (high middle number): http://www.homedepot.com/webap...

Hoya memoria is blooming right now ... sweet fragrance. I took these pictures this morning:

Charleen: I love that description ... Christmas Ornaments of the Plant World ... very cool! This orchid was given to me recently by a friend. it's one of those Phalaenopsis that they inject with blue dye (I'm assuming to grab the attention of shoppers?) but future blooms will be the normal white color. The blooms are fading and the plant got hit with heavy rains and winds for two days earlier this week:

Yeah, I've seen those around. Reminds me of the Carnations that they put green dye in for St. Patrick's Day, lol.... *sigh*.... at least I don't torture my plants *that* way!

I think plants are beautiful in their normal colors, shapes etc. I can't imagine dying one another color just to attract the attention of buyers ... but I guess it works because folks see them and just have to have them! I think it's horrible that some people think it's okay to dye baby chicks at Easter time too! Thumbs down

*sigh* one of these days I hope to see blooms on my hoya's. Preferably before I die. For one, it's been in the same pot for 5 years, and winds back and forth three times on a 6 foot long window, making the vine about 18 feet long. Still not a single bloom, and it is suppose to get great big large red fragrant blooms, can't remember the name of it, it has been so long since I planted it...lol! I've put pictures of it up here before...

Good morning all,

Didn't a bunch of chicks dye one year from the kind of dye that was used on some of them???

I have I think 4 peace lilies, one my moma gave me the day my oldest daughter was born.Jessica will be 23 in feb.I finally repotted it for the maybe 4th time this spring and I ended up with sooo many babies.Already having been given 3 others I didn't really want another but this one plant was a good size.I figured i'd try something different. My grandson who is 3 & a half loves helping me and he has 2 plants of his own Thumbs up .He even asked santa for a red plant??? Hurray! We took the idea from his lucky bamboo plant and put the peace lily in a container of rocks and water. It should live shouldn't it?

My Hoya lacunosa had one measly bloom recently but boy did it smell wonderful!

Alan: I went back and looked at the picture you posted here: http://garden.org/thread/view_... of your Hoya that you can't remember the name of. The leaves sure look familiar. It reminds me of one I had that grew large but never bloomed for me. I lost it to our freezes last winter, Hoya imperialis. I think there are a couple of different varieties but one has large red flowers: http://www.google.com/search?q...

Jo: I'm not sure how your Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) will do growing in water but since you have lots of babies it sure doesn't hurt to try! I've grown Arrowhead Vine (Syngonium) and Devil's Ivy (Pothos) in water for years but I've never tried the peace lily. Keep us posted on how it does for you!

No freezes here yet, and there are still a few things blooming. How about a red flowering Hibiscus:

Lin, you are absolutely right, that is what it is. I recognized the name and the bloom the minute I read what you typed and called it up. Yeah...still no blooms. Maybe before I retire...lol!

Hi everyone Smiling

I tried uploading some pics under the Dreceana topic and had success. This is the first place and time that uploading a picture has not worked for me. Confused

I have a something plant, not sure what it but my best guess after weeks and hours of searching to find what this may be is that it may be some kind of Dreceana.

I found it in the trash; actually a piece of this plant in the trash. It still has green at the top however, for weeks I have had to helplessly watch it go from green all the way from top to bottom, to brown except at the top. Without a picture uploaded I have no other way to show you the plant and what is happening. any help is greatly appreciated. I know uploading a picture doesn't take over five minutes. I'm stumped????

Depends on the size of your file and your internet connection. If your connection is reeeaaaalllly slow (dial up, or a heavily used connection) it can take a long time. If your picture is big, larger than 1 mg, it might take quite a while, too. I'd try it one more time and make sure Dave wasn't fixing something on the site or something, too.

Does it look like a corn plant?
