I try not to bid against ATPs folks or friends of mine in the daylily world. Only if it is something I really want. I am sure there are many that I don't know their bidding name so sorry about that if I have outbid you. I am easy to find. I am bluegrassmom on the LA too lol.

Plz bid if you see something you are really interested in. As a seller getting a good price for your product is important.

I just placed a few bids on some of Leslie's (Lalambchop) seeds. She specializes in polys, doubles and some very interesting daylilies, if anyone is interested -- and her prices are very reasonable! And, if anyone really wants any of the crosses I have already bid on, it's OK to place your own bids against me too! I already have way too many seeds...

I don't understand this thread at all Smiling ! It's an auction. It's bidding on something you want. If two or more people want the same item, they are supposed to bid against each other until two reach the limit they are willing to go, with higher bid taking the item. No??? I'm glad my name is totally different on the LA than here on ATP. If someone also bids against the same item, that's fine. The auction is a nice thing, but it's not going to be very good for sellers if no one is willing to bid against someone. They might all have to go to the store and 'fixed price' in order to keep selling. That means bargains probably won't be common. If the bidding works like it should, then they win some, lose some and it works out. But if folks won't bid against someone they won't ever win and any bargains will be rare. After saying all that, I don't recall ever having another bidder for something I was putting a bid on. I wonder if people avoided bidding once I put a bid on an plant.

Donald- after reading your post twice, I have to agree. I certainly want to see everyone of my fellow ATP members get the most they can, and even the other sellers who take the time to list plants/seeds that I may never have access for otherwise continue listing. Thanks for the well thought out post, Donald.

Its not like these are one of a kind items, well most. If someone bids against me, ill try again, if I dont want to bid against someone, so be it, it will come up again. Your guide should not be who you are bidding against, but the closed auction list and your lust for the item. Thats what i go by anyway. If someone on ATP has a bid in for 2 bucks on a 40$ plant, darn sure Im going to bid against them. If they are close to the value I have put on the item, then on to the next time.
There are too many people, from to many places, that the few people from ATP are certainly not going to set any prices on the LA I dont think.

I have a limit on what I am willing to spend for an auction. Either I win it for that price (or under) or I don't. My limit is my pocketbook and that is how I bid. Y'all want the same thing I am bidding on, then you'll have to bid higher than me! I agree that the sellers are on the auction not to give away plants or seeds, but to profit from them.

But I will also say that I see some sellers starting their bidding off high. I immediately overlook those auctions. The other thing that I have seen recently is that some sellers are only offering 3 seeds. I pass on those too. From experience, if those 3 little seeds don't germinate, then I have to request a refund (which I don't like to do). I always plant 3 seeds to start with, and hold back 2 just in case something happens (from a win of 5 seeds). With only 3 seeds, I have no backup seeds. No thanks. I pass on those auctions. That is my perspective as a buyer......

I am one that will bid on what I am interested up to my price limit, no matter who else is bidding. Win or lose there will always be another offer of the same cultivar at some time although sometimes it can be a long wait for a hard to find plant.

I enjoy watching some folks who don't have a clue as to the value of a cultivar and go gangbusters with their bidding because they want it, sometimes they pay more than the hybridizers charges. By the way I do not use the same name on the LA that I use here and I like it that way. Big Grin

I have used Bluegrassmom for years. I started selling on Ebay for a while and then I have had an Etsy account also. So people online kinda guess it may be me lol. I love glassware/pottery ect plus plants.

I try to ck the prices of closed daylily auctions to be sure I am not going way overboard on bidding. I too find it entertaining to see what folks bid.
