Hurray! Good job to the Super Whitinger boys on another great raffle and again, Congratulations to all the winners! It was sweet of the boys to delay swimming to help with the drawing; I have a feeling it won't be long before the boys decide to retire their raffle duties and little Rosebud will become "Raffle Girl" for awhile. Green Grin! Love those t-shirts by the way and I wondered why sweet little Rosebud didn't have one on. She sure is growing up fast!

beckygardener said:I am curious to know why? Prohibited tree in CA?

Many plants are prohibited from being shipped to Ca and AZ, maybe because of issues of certain plants with invasive tendencies or more than likely, as with citrus ... the possibility of insect pests being transported from state to state. Some states have strong restrictions. I remember in February 1970 when my husband and I drove cross country from Fla. to Ca. for a Naval school he had to attend; we had oranges in the car with us for snacks and when we got to Arizona (I think it was AZ) there was a place where vehicles were stopped to be checked and they confiscated the three or four oranges we had left. A couple of years ago we were heading up to the Panhandle of Florida for vacation and decided to take the scenic back roads. We were pulling the motorcycle trailer with the bike and I'm not certain but I believe we were on SR 19 and I saw a sign that stated something like "All trucks, Trailers and Vans must stop for inspection ahead, my husband drove right by and I yelled at him "Didn't you see the sign, you were supposed to stop!" He immediately pulled over. He said that he saw the sign but he thought it meant for Semi Trailers and such but I told him that I was sure it was something to do with agricultural checks and sure enough it was. He backed up and and a lady FHP Officer came out, she was very friendly but said she did have to check the trailer. My husband was joking with her and said "Would you have come after me if I hadn't backed up and stopped and she said "Most Definitely" and she grinned and said I probably would have written you a citation for not stopping." She said she just had to check to see if we were hauling any plants or citrus.

Hilarious!

I walked away from the computer rather disappointed with something (completely unrelated to ATP) and came back to this AMAZING NEWS! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm trying to decide between two prizes...tough decisions, especially since I never expected to win! Blinking

@Dave - your kids are so cute...I ran to my hubby's computer (his has speakers) to play the YouTube video and it was the first time I got to hear them.

@kidfishing - thanks, Ashton!!! It was thanks to you and Becky that I even really knew about the auctions and you telling me that you'd won in the past inspired me to give it a go. Thank You!

Please let me add something...(I'm always joking about winning acorns, but)...
Each and every winner should please, please, please post photos of the prizes when they arrive...or later after they are planted and perk up from their vacation in the mailing boxes.
Photos like that will encourage more people to visit the generous vendors who participate in our NARR here on ATP.
Photos...we demand photos.....(dang, where is the emoticon where I slam my fist into my palm to make a point?) Thumbs up

@Esperanza Audrey, you can't go wrong with Crepe Myrtles ... try one and I'm sure you'll want a couple more to keep that one company. Green Grin! They really are very easy to grow and they grace us with long lasting gorgeous blooms and really pretty bark when they are bare of leaves in the winter!

Congrats, Libby on being the 1st place winner! See ... I told you earning acorns was a good thing! :-D

Thanks, Ashton! Thumbs up

I did see several daylily members win in this raffle .... perhaps because...

I am going to throw a pitch here for the Daylily of the Day new feature on the Daylily Forum ....

There are almost 80,000 named and registered daylilies in the AHS database (and probably here in the ATP Plant Database, too). One of the biggest challenges to anyone wanting to acquire a daylily cultivar is ... WHICH ONE???? With so many to choose from, you want to know which ones grow well in certain zones and climates, which ones produce lots of flowers or nice foliage or make great parents for hybridizing. So we did a poll and each participating member listed their top 10 favorite daylilies. We feature 1 a day. (It will take us 219 years to cover every single daylily in the database if no more are named and registered... Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! ) We are starting with the top favorite daylilies of ATP members! Anyone who has one of the featured daylily cultivars can post a performance review on the specific thread at ANY time to earn an acorn.

Dave created a new forum for all the Daylilies of the Day archived threads. Even though each thread is "archived" after 7 days, these are still active threads and any ATP member can post their evaluation of those featured daylily cultivars that they have or had (at any time). Members can update their evaluation of their plant with a new post annually and receive another acorn each year. You post a performance review to help your fellow gardeners and earn an acorn in the process!
http://garden.org/forums/view/...

So that is yet another way to earn acorns (if you happen to own any daylilies that are featured in the Daylily of the Day threads)!

Wowser!! How fun to log on, only to find a t-mail from Dave saying I was one of the winners !!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

I would say that I must have done enough whining about never winning anything that it somehow tipped the odds in my favor, but I think there might have been other people that would have been on the list if that was the case Hilarious!

And, not that anyone will believe this "after the fact," but #13 actually is a lucky number for me Thumbs up

Congratulations to all of the winners, and thanks so much to Dave and the sponsors for making all this fun possible for us... and just for the record, I only bought 4 tickets, so you really DON'T have to buy hundreds to end up on the winners' list. I truly appreciate the rule that a person can win only one prize, no matter how many tickets they have!

I have some pink ones that were given to me. Pink is not my thing, but a pink bloom is better than no bloom. A dark leafed beauty with red flowers...... heck ya! I am all over that..... got to get me some. It is hard on my hill to incorporate dark foliage shrubs or trees, most needing conditions that I can not meet. Crepe Myrtles are an excellent choice.

Woohoo! Hurray! A HUGE thank you to Dave and Trish for hosting these wonderful not-a-raffles, and especially for including their adorable kiddos in the videos. Somehow seeing those big brown eyes and cute little toes takes the sting out of not winning. I look forward to those videos, even in the months I don't buy any tickets!

That said, I am beyond excited that I was drawn for #15! So many good prizes! The only one I'm worried about is the crepe myrtles, as I live in zone 5 and can't wrangle a pot big enough for a 10-12 foot tall plant indoors every winter. They're so beautiful, I have a feeling those will be snapped up before it gets to me, anyway. Hilarious!

Many, many thanks to all the vendors that made this record-setting drawing a possibility! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
