Blue ensign has bloomed since spring and when she finished blooming
in June I cut the plant back about one half and she is blooming
profusely..and will till frost in November..

I never get tired of photographing this salvia or just looking at it!

Sherri it is a real beauty!! I have one that I just got in late July which is supposed to be the S. Guaranitica species which spreads by tubers and gets taller than S Black and Blue (which I also have and love but it is an annual in my zone) but has the same blue flowers only with green calyces as yours does. It is just now budding. I hope it is as beautiful as your Blue Ensign!

That is a beautiful Salvia. Have to order it next year. It has to be "Hummingbird candy".

These are pics of the very first buds on my S Guaranitica that I described in my prior comment. I am very pleased with the color and the plant sure looks the same as your beautiful Blue Ensign @Sheridragonfly ! Will post a pic when flowers open- I know there are several varieties of bloom color of S Guaranitica so mine may not be Blue Ensign. But I still think it is going to be beautiful and I still like Blsck and Bkue, however I like this one better!

I was pleased just now to see several open blooms on my S. Guaranitica! At first these looked to be slightly brighter than the Black and Blue blooms but I picked a Black and Blue bloom and held it right next to one of these blooms and there is very little if any difference in color. I think it must be the green calyces that give the blooms a different appearance. So am guessing mine is not Blue Ensign. But I am very happy with it. And with enjoying your great pics of your Blue Ensign.
