I do love Starship but she is apparently not happy where I docked her. Rolling my eyes.

My Starship is also very tiny and did not bloom the first year. We shall see what this spring brings but not hopeful.

The flower is so spectacular, I suppose they though it must be introduced.

It truely is fantastic in bloom. If it had never bloomed, and I hadn't seen how lovely it was, I would probably not feel so bad about chucking it.

Mine in it's glory:

Sighing!

I see that is is in the background of some newer irises as well, like Ring Tone, and Watercolor Print and many others.

For a vigorous classic, try 'Jesse's song' lovely plicata. It is one which grows all over the country--difficult to do.

I got Jesse's Song last fall from Greg. It didn't bloom this spring but it is growing well and should bloom next spring.
Tom - there are many iris that have Starship as a parent, and a lot of the children do much better in the reliable bloom department. So I guess the only challenge is getting it to bloom so you can make crosses with it! Hilarious!

I've been looking for alternates to 'Starship Enterprise'... This past Spring I had 'Rainbow High' bloom.. quite fond of this one.

I luuuv Beam Me Up Scotty. Radiant Caterpillar would certainly catch your eye. I wouldn't want to cause an accident. Years ago a man made a sudden stop when passing my corner lot. I think it was a clump of High Life that caught his attention. If another car had been right behind him there would have been a messy situation. That may have been the year I won Queen of the Show with High Life and runner-up with Stepping Out. I wish I could afford to have my slides digitized. I have a lot from the 1970s-1980s. I went to Melba Hamblen's every year and I notice there are a lot of hers missing pictures. I can't remember if I took pictures of many of her own, but must have done some of them.

I too love Beam Me Up Scotty but it was oversold in 2014 so they weren't offering it this year to build up stock. I am keeping an eye on that one!

Charlotte, I understand about the slides.. My parents had 3-4000 that I sort of went through. Fortunately my mother was organized and wrote on the box what each slide was.. I had prints made up for me and my sister and made a photo album for each of us. I was a little shocked at how quickly it added up. I thought putting them on a disc might be cheaper when I was transferring some others, but if it was, it wasn't much..

I was noticing the other day when I was researching some iris that photos of Melva Hamblen's introductions were under-represented.. I'm wondering if your local Society would be interested in helping to get some of those transferred, especially those that have no photo record online?

One can buy a refurbished 32 bit machine for $360 delivered. It will only work on an older computer, but it would do the job.
