To Leslie: Wow ! I really like that photo of the iris "Starship Enterprise" that you posted. That is incredible. How did you acquire that rhizome ?

Question for all please. Is it possible some Iris rhizomes grow faster than others, and some grow now and others may not grow until Spring? Because I have noticed that some of my iris have grown their leaves very quickly and others have not budged. And many have also already had
side growths start, and others ... well, they are just sitting there doing nothing Crying

So, the one's that are not doing anything - I would assume this is not the time of year that they would be growing anyhow, so do I assume that they won't begin to grow leaves until the Springtime next year ?

The summer is a dormant period in general, but the rhizomes are storing up energy. I have some that grow a lot after planted, but then in the spring I have many of the so-so growers really start to put up leaves, then later bloomstalks. It takes each iris a time to get acclimated to your garden so don't worry if they don't all grow at the same rate.

Money in Your Pocket just sits there. It never seems to grow or change and it didn't bloom.

Omigosh Linnea -- Money In Your Pocket was a whiz-kid here. Lots of growth, plenty of bloom for the first year -- making a nice clump now for next year! Go figure!

Maybe it doesn't like its spot. It is in partial shade. The intermediates did exceptionally well there. Littlest bits of dwarfs bloomed. But not MIYP. Confused

I would definitely move it to a place with more sun and see if it does better. If it doesn't then it just may be an iris that doesn't do well in your zone/garden. Heaven knows we all have some that just do not want to grow for us.

Some irises put their increases out in the fall & some in the spring. then there is the Chapman iris 'Eternal Summer' which he says blooms spring, summer & fall. I have just not had the space to order that one.

Do you need to water a lot this time of year to encourage leaf growth ?
Right now it is very Hot with a lot of sunshine. I assume iris rhizomes can handle the heat and sun. I don't think they will shrivel and dry up, right? I guess I don't want to feel like I have to water them daily in this very warm weather we are experiencing here right now. There is no rain in the forecast at all. I can't remember when it rained last.

Patrick -- if you're asking me? -- I don't water my established beds. Only rhizomes planted this summer.

I was asking everyone here on this forum. I don't have any established beds. In a few years I will, but currently I don't, so I was asking about newly planted Iris rhizomes.
