I was only going to sell one of them and keep one, but I think I have changed my mind. They would make a killer duo on each side of the staircase going down to the garden from my new sunroom that will be started on in the next two weeks.
I have been growing these for about four years now, so they are a really nice size. I would have to charge more than I think I could get. Better off keeping them
I am not sure what the root stock was. It was the triangular green cactus with thorns. Might be another type of euphorbia, I am not sure. I hated them and the tops were getting to heavy to support them much longer. I tossed them on the ground and they died, but I am sure they would have lived and done fine if I was inclined to keep them and took care of them. They sit for several weeks and will deflate a lot before deciding it wants to grow its own roots. After a couple of days I just set them on top of the soil and let them sit for a week in shade before watering lightly. I had three that I chopped off the stock and then chopped in half the three, so now I have 6. I had one growing in sun up to sun down with no protection from the sun, one indoors, and the others with dappled light conditions and they have all done well. Very well. I was completely shocked when I started tugging on one to get it out of a pot and had to get a tool and water to pry that beautiful root system out.
Everything I have read says how slow they grow and need the stock, blah, blah, blah. Well, I can say that after 100% success with all my tries that this plant is much hardier than is given credit. It might also be because of how mature they were before trying it. When the first one worked I was no longer nervous about doing the others. I was really nervous about the first time. They have put on a couple of inches since growing on their own. I think it looks so much better than standing like a deformed loly pop and makes it easier to incorporate into a mixed planter. It is the first time I am really happy with them in a mixed planter. They are an interesting plant to look at, but I really do prefer a mix of fun stuff rather than specimen pots. I cant wait to see these planters mature in the sun next year.
Oh, and some parts of the bottom edges sitting on the soil did rot a little and I thought I was going to lose those that did that, but they turned out just fine. Also the pieces that revert back to normal growth that have to be cut off will root most of the time but need to be spritzed with water till roots form.
