Or even sometimes when you pick the figs - you might just want to cut the very top of the fig off where it detaches from the branch, sometimes it will have just a bit of the white sap on it. The riper it is, it seems the less there is and you can probably just rinse it off.

The USDA map, which has been recently revised, now has me half a zone warmer than previous maps. Very good for figs I think!

The cuttings are in pots now, in the greenhouse but on a low shelf where the night temperature will be about 45 and they won't get direct sun in the daytime-. I will put plastic grocery bags on them before we get a sunny day when the greenhouse already gets hot! I put them in individual pots. If they all grow, I'll have a fig forest.

A friend of mine makes strawberry fig jam without any strawberries. She uses strawberry jello. Strawberry seeds and fig seeds look very similiar, and nobody seems to notice that there aren't so many seeds in her jam. It tasted great to me.
