Back around 2005-06, I had a bed containing all of Pat Stamile's "candies" that had been registered to that time. Gradually, most of them left here, not because they were bad plants but over time when growing a lot of daylilies, one's tastes change .... and sometimes you just get tired of some and want to move on to a new interest. Speaking for myself only! I still have both 'Strawberry Candy' and 'Custard Candy' probably only because they both won the Stout Medal and because they grow well in large pots in the garden. Every couple of years, I have to give away some fans to new club members because they both grow vigorously. I still have kept a few of the more recent ones, 'Precious Candy,' 'Sherry Candy' and 'Special Candy.'
Here are some pictures of some that used to grow here:
DREAM CANDY, ELDERBERRY CANDY and AWESOME CANDY
I used to grow BLUEBERRY CANDY, EXOTIC CANDY, ELEGANT CANDY, HUCKLEBERRY CANDY, LICORICE CANDY, PEACH CANDY, BLACKBERRY CANDY, RAINBOW CANDY, VANILLA CANDY, WINEBERRY CANDY, and others, but those pics were before the age of digital and are not on this computer. ORCHID CANDY was a favorite and I believe it went to a club member!
These still grow here: CUSTARD CANDY, STRAWBERRY CANDY and I can't resist adding this clump from the Long Island National in 2006,
where STRAWBERRY CANDY was hybridized. This was at the LIDS club bed and Pat was there to see it ! Shows why it won the SSM - what a clump!
Another that used to grow here: SUNGOLD CANDY;
These still grow here, mug shot of each: PRECIOUS CANDY, SHERRY CANDY and SPECIAL CANDY.
The newer ones seem to have a decent bud count here and nice "pony" sized blooms with pretty faces and edges.
