Thanks John,

I'll be sure to remind you. According to Schreiners they would ship to my zone no later than 14 September. I'll be listing my iris available for trade in December.

The problem that I had last year when I promised rhizomes early was that some of the fans turned out to to be bloom stalks.. I mean, I figured that that would happen, but on some varieties, I may have had 8 fans, 5 bloomed, and I had 2 committed.. That didn't give me any margin of safety. Is there a way to tell early, if a fan is going to bloom? Or do you just go on the past history of that particular variety and know that if it makes a certain number of new fans that X many of those will bloom??

I've always heard that a fan with three or more leaves will bloom the next season. So -- it stands to reason that baby increases will not bloom, but mature increases (likely two years old?) will. Shrug!

December trades? No way I could plant anything then, and so can't imagine digging them up then either. Interesting. I thought most trades were in the spring and after bloom.

Kilimanjaro Sunset is my very favorite Kasperek, but the one I have is growing oh so slowly. Hope it blooms sometime..... Sighing!

From what I have learned, I would not plant past the end of Sept./beginning of Oct. so the irises could take root and everything. Even though the weather is still warm during the day, just don't want to take a chance. Murphy's law is that it could be quite warm in mid November, and I plant, then it would turn immediately freezing cold.

I planted all through winter last year, Richard... But everything had been potted up in the summer. Generally speaking, the ones I got in prior to December put o the most growth, and almost all bloomed.

I don't usually try and id an iris but this one is unique enough that someone may recognize it from my photos. It is an SDB and has a modern form.

I got it in 14 and it is possible it was a bonus. The tag on it was removed when I had visitors in the garden. I now have three pots of different irises with no tags. grrrrrrr Any help in the right direction would be great.

Bonnie, do you know which vendor it was from?

No, John, and it is not anything that I ordered in 2014. That is why I think it must have been a bonus. I plant NoIDs in an area all by themselves so I know this one came with a name and from a vendor. It may wind up in the NoID area if I cannot find its name. I have several little ones without names but they are common enough that I will just leave them as unidentified irises. Since this one has specific markings I thought someone may grow it and be able to recognize it.

Forest Glade comes close but I have my doubts;

Forest Glade is pretty but not my NoID. The standards are a light tan with no yellow influence. And the form is very modern with falls that stand out. I could email photos to all the vendors I ordered from but since I could not tell them it was from them I doubt they would take the time to look at it.

Do you keep your packing lists from vendors? They usually include a list of the gifts. You could go to the catalogs/or websites of vendors that you bought from that year. I have a habit of always adding the bonus iris info to my list of acquired irises in a given year.

Yep -- me too, Tom. I keep the packing lists, and I add all acquisitions to my database, whether they're purchases or gifts. At least you can narrow down the list of possibilities that way.

Do you order from Winterberry and, if so, does the name Moss Spot ring any bells?
