Bonica is such a sweet and reliable rose, and it looks great with those asters in the second picture.

Those are beautiful! My roses stopped blooming a couple of weeks ago (I had just transplanted them, for one, and haven't cut them to promote more blooming, for two). It's great yours are giving you such a show! I especially love the last 4 pictures. Those reds and oranges...ahhhh....beautiful Lovey dubby

Zuzu - I began planting mums and aster several years ago. Many of the local garden nurseries would have them available in the Fall. Each year I would buy and plant them as I was told they were "winter hardy" and each year they would die of over the winter - never to be seen again. It wasn't until 2 years ago that I came across an article that mentioned in my zone you have to buy & plant them in the Spring. Apparently, they take a long time to take root. Duh. Now I have a multitude of mums and asters. They look very pretty in a vase and last a long time.

Lyn and Porkpal - thank you for the compliment - Canon deserves some credit too!

DogsNDaylilies - The temps dropped down into the 30's for 2 days and now they up into the 40 - 60's - go figure.

Beautiful! I especially like the old rose look of Jeri Jennings.

My roses are more colorful in the fall too, but yours are more photogenic.

Sue, your Brass Band is stunning. Wish mine would bloom like that. I didn't know Daughter of STars is a rebloomer! Mine hasn't rebloomed yet, but it is still young.
We finally pulled out the monster Zephirine and Caramella Fairy Tale today. We replanted them, and I think they have a good chance of surviving, because the root balls were pretty extensive. The whole process went so well that I pulled out a couple of Altheas and a burning bush, replanted those, then tackled my giant suckering Sensation lilac.
The rain we were supposed to get this week didn't happen, and it didn't cool off much either. Guess I'll be spending some time watering this week so that all my new plantings and transplantings survive!

Good luck, Cindi.

I am amazed that I am still watering at this time of year. We are supposed to get rain on Wednesday, so I have to go to the chipping pile for mulch tomorrow. I ran out.

Smiles,
Lyn

No rain here yet, so I'm crossing my fingers for both Kansas and Cali.
Now the forecast says upper 30s tomorrow night, ugh. I am NOT ready to bring the tropicals indoors!
It's a back-breaking chore, and I have not cleared any space so it's double the work!
I don't even have room in the garage for short term storage. Sigh. . .

But the Royals made it to the World Series, so it's all good, right!?

This gorgeous grandcover rose has bloomed all summer in huge clusters like this . This particular cluster has been there for over 3 weeks. The tag says 'Sweet Drift', but I have Sweet Drift in other places and the bloom is light pink and smaller. Anyone want to guess what this really is?
The rose grows sideways, maybe 18 inches each way, not more than 15 inches tall, but that bloom cluster is a good 10 inches across.

Here are some current blooms on roses not featured in other posts this month.

Antique Caramel, Benjamin Britten, and Burgundy Iceberg

Pleasure (originally posted as Cherish, but edited to add correct name), Chicago Peace, and Concerto

Crepuscule, Day Breaker, and Ginger Syllabub

Key Largo, La Jolla, and Mariposa Gem

Neptune, Pat Austin, and Perle d'Or

Pretty Lady, Smarty, and Soaring Spirits

The name of Ginger Syllabub always escapes me. I have to look it up on my garden map every time. Syllabub is an English liquid dessert made of curdled milk. It was traditionally made by having a milkmaid milk a cow directly into a jug of cider. Crying Blinking When I see the rose and try to think of its name, Mulligatawny is the only thing that comes to my mind. Mulligatawny's another English liquid food (a soup) I don't like.

Does anyone know parentage of Edith's Darling? Has anyone seen it growing anywhere? What I read online about scent is contradictory. I'm also wondering just how disease resistant it really is.

I noticed that contradictory scent description on the Edmunds' website and I also want to know more about the rose. It's very pretty.
