I wanted to add that I'm really excited that my $3 teddy bear vine is putting out new growth.

It's vines are strange, though. My other plant--the one I consider healthier at the moment--is green and more hairy on the stems than fuzzy, but my clearance one is reddish-brown and feels fuzzier on the vines. From feeling the vines, it seems that it was very overwatered at the store, but from seeing the reddish-brown fuzz, one would think it was suffering from too little water. (At the moment, the soil is moist--neither wet nor dry--but as I recall, I haven't watered it since I purchased it.)

Pictures...

Here is the larger, healthier vine:

Here is the smaller vine with browner fuzz:

But, the newer vine *is* putting out new growth, as I mentioned, so that's reassuring. The new growth is green and looks healthy (see the middle of the picture):

I believe this particular one is supposed to be brownish-red in color (the fuzz). I've seen them at Lowes before and that's what they looked like. And the spacing between the leaves was rather short. I believe the green/larger spacing between the leaves means it didn't get enough light for a period of time. With hairy Transcendentia, I've noticed the colors are more pronounced with higher light.

Beth, how interesting! Good to know! Thank You! It makes sense to me, too, that it should have the brown fuzz (that makes it look more like a teddy bear). Fortunately, my greener one is getting more light now than at the store, so I'll keep an eye out for a turnaround in color and see if that ends up being the case.

I forgot to say in my last message, if you wanted to, you could acclimate it to higher light next Spring and pinch it back. It will "back bud" and produce one or more vines where you pinched it back. It keeps these bushy that way and you'd get rid of unwanted growth. I say next Spring, because winter growth isn't the best and you may end up with straggly vines.

Beth, if I pinch off a part of a few vines, can I root the parts I pinched off and propagate it that way? Have you tried it before?

I believe you can. I think that's how @purpleinopp gets so many cuttings of hers (she has varying "cultivars"). I think they take root pretty easily. I haven't tried it myself with the houseplant types, it's been a long time since I owned a Transcendentia that I grew indoors. I had the one you can find in the garden section, it's a dark purple variety, it rooted pretty easily when I stuck it in its pot.

I would just wait until Spring to make sure you get the best growth. Winter has less intense light and people often find their plants etiolate over the winter.

I'm also excited, I just saw two tips of my fishtail hoya (the new one I just purchased several days ago) that are producing brand new leaves. Here is a picture of the one that is further along:

Thsi picture isnt' as in focus, sadly, but it makes the leaves look like a duckbill platypus Hilarious!

...and my loved-nearly-to-death orchid (from an old 'brood' of houseplants I purchased a year ago) is bouncing back and has produced about an inch of growth just this past week Hurray! :

Are you kidding me, I couldn't kill my purple, 'Wandering Jew' transcendentia if I wanted to! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Not that I want to. I had a stem of it fall off earlier this year and I was outside so I just ripped up the leaves and through them in an amaryllis pot, thinking they would add some nutrients back into the soil of my amaryllis. Noooooo, sirree! Those little suckers rooted themselves and grew several vines. I felt bad when I ended up deciding to pull them out and pitch them, after all their hard work to get going from little pieces... Sad Prior to that, I've also given several cuttings to my mom and sister and they took off. No, I definitely don't worry about my purple transcendentia being able to take root from cuttings. As long as the teddy bear vine shares that trait, I'm sure I'll have fifty of them next year! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Thanks for the shout-out! That teddy bear vine is one that remains on my wish list. I've seen them at WM a few times, but chose other plants instead. If someone ends up with 50, they would probably be interested in some kind of trade next year...

You betcha! I plan to propagate a few cuttings, so please let me know if you would like one. If they are at all as forgiving and hardy as my wandering jew plant, I have no qualms with starting cuttings this time of year...I'm sure they'll still grow despite the changing temperatures and sunlight. Hopefully I can have a sizeable cutting/plant or two for you by spring Big Grin

Any comments to confirm IDs on these would be great!!! I suspect that the two in the back are Pencil Cactus and Finger Jade (Gollum), but I have yet to come up with guesses for the other two. Shrug!

I just came across a picture in the database and I wanted to see what you guys think. My pale-green NOID that looks terribly etoliated in the green pot above...

...do you think it could be this?:
Graptoveria (XGraptoveria 'Opalina')

Here's a picture from the database:

...or another XGraptoveria such as one of these?:
http://garden.org/plants/brows...

So far, XGraptoveria is the only plant I've found that has similarly-shaped leaves and a variety with a lavender hue ('Opalina' one has lavender hues like mine does). Mine doesn't have as much lavender as what I'm seeing in the photos, but it looks like a promising lead.

Thoughts?

I agree that it's possibly a graptoveria. You can't go by the colors on the plants because these vary according to how much light the plant receives. The less sun, the less intense the colors appear to be. As for the one in front of the grapto(whatever), it looks like a crassula. Perhaps Crassula arborescens subsp. undulatifolia 'Ripple Jade' That's just MHO--a wild guess really. Big Grin I love the assortment/combo. And a great catch. Thumbs up

I couldn't help myself. I found this combo pot on sale for $5 (regular price $15). I am going to have to make room, seeing as I don't have any room ( Whistling ).

I would like an ID on the Arrowhead Vine if possible (is it 'Holly' or 'White Butterfly'? @purpleinopp), so I can add a picture to the database.

And I believe there's a Ardisia humilis in there?

Nice collection! If it didn't come with a cultivar name and there are several that are similar, it would be guessing to try to attach one to your plant. I don't get into cultivar names for that plant at all, so I don't even have a guess. The species entry would be a good place for a pic of it, unless/until a consensus is reached about a cultivar name. If it has a grower tag, sometimes cultivar can be determined. In this case, if they only have one "white one."
Arrowhead Plant (Syngonium podophyllum)

I think A. elliptica would be more likely in a group planter like that, and don't know A. humilis to know what the differences might be between those two.

I gotcha! I was thinking that would be the safest bet, but I know you have a good eye for these things so I thought I'd ask. *Blush*

I can't say I know Ardisia all that well myself. Thanks for the additional name, I'll need to look into both of them to better take a stab at which one it could be.

More pics could help someone recognize it, maybe in a post on Plant ID?
