I emailed RC and got a merchandise credit for a future order. WFF is still listing Quito in their inventory , so I ordered one from them. Hopefully WFF's Quito is still dormant. If it isn't, I'm going to assume that WFF and RC are using the same grower, that is sending out a bad batch of Quito.

Barbara, I hope you get a good bulb from WFF, but it would not surprise me if they used the same grower. Glare

I will be following this tread with interest and will post pics if I get any blooms this year. My bulbs look healthy and have been growing all year with good green leaves. This one bloomed as a surprise last week. This is the second spike from this plant in a month. Its a NOID.

A couple of years ago we purchased an Amaryllis bulb in a box from Safeway. The season was over the bulbs were half price. Anyway there inside one box was the bloom spike trying to open.

The Box has a contact email address from the wholesaler. It said if we were not completely satisfied contact them. So we did. We were rewarded with a box of three large bulbs with an apology from the wholesaler.

I noticed a third flower scape emerging from the Quito from RC. I'm hoping that scape will bloom normally, since the two scapes, that were out of the bulb when I received it, are drying up. Hurray!

The Quito arrived yesterday from WFF. Same problem as I had with the Quito from RC, one scape is up and trying to bloom. Which tells me that RC and WFF are getting Quito from the same grower. I think the other scape/ or scapes will bloom normally.

On Nov 15th in this thread, I mentioned digging up 150 Amaryllis bulbs and moving them into pots to keep my new dog Griff from eating them. 3 months later, Griff is still as crazy as ever, but much to my happy surprise, a lot of the transplanted bulbs are putting up new leaves and some flower scapes. I was concerned that I would lose this years' flowers, but a good percentage of them may be OK. I have 20 new bulbs that will go directly into a big pot, again outside of the fenced backyard.

That's good news, Barbara. It reminds me that I still need to pot mine up in combo pots. Thumbs up

Thumb of 2016-03-20/bsharf/416441 These are the bulbs that I moved out of the ground in Nov. They are blooming at least 2-3 weeks earlier than the ones in the ground. I suspect the warming effect on the soil of the black pots. Also the leaves look healthier since they are no longer in the direct path of lawn sprinklers. A 2 inch layer of mulch over the soil helps to retain moisture. I've only watered when the soil felt dry under the mulch. I'm very pleased with the results and would use this method in the future.

I have 2 dozen in each 24 inch pot. I packed them in, since I plan to fertilize them heavily. I now have 7 of these pots. I like the fact that I can move them around, with a refrigerator mover, if the light conditions aren't right. These 5 pots are getting sun until about 1PM. 2 pots are in sun after 10AM. They may have to be moved this summer, if the leaves start to burn.

With them packed so closely together, once they get lots of leaves will there be enough air circulation. I think that would be a good way to keep mine for the summer, they wouldn't dry out as quickly when we go camping.

How is your dog doing?, is he leaving the Amaryllis alone now that you have them in pots?

Griff can't get at the bulbs now, since they are no longer within the fenced in backyard. In terms of the heavy planting; this is still an experiment in progress. A valid concern
is the high humidity and daily thunderstorms of a Florida summer. The interior leaves could possibly stay too damp. I like the idea of the large volume of loose fertile soil which has good drainage in the pots. I'm hoping that the large pots will help to keep the soil moisture at a fairly stable level. This could be an solution in the summer for keeping bulbs moist when you will be away.

That's good that Griff can't get at them anymore. I hope yours will ok with the humid wet weather, here it is mostly hot and dry from the end of June until mid August, then I have to worry about an early frost so will have to cover them if we do get some, I don't want to take them back in the house until at least the end of August or early September, it will depend on the weather.

Kelli, that's a lovely bloom.

Jolana, sure glad we don't have snails here, we do have slugs but not a lot of them. Angry
