I am new to this plant. Trying to add RockGarden types to my garden.
It is probably too late to do anything about this now but as I am looking at the garden needs for 2016 I thought I would ask when is the best time to order peonies?

I ordered peony roots in the summer for a fall delivery and fall planting.

Different catalogs come out at different times, as early as January. Ordering early gives you best selection. But ordering late can give you some good deals, like this one:

3 peonies for the price of 2. It has been a really nice fall here for planting late. The ground is very workable yet and this week, the first week in November, usually quite cold, is gorgeous .

I suspect we will have a milder winter than last. The Super Elnino is working its magic, at least thats what the meteorologist said in August.
