Wow, I didn't realize that. We were in Naples when we took an airboat trip in the Everglades. I was just in awe of the way the plants all grew outdoors. The garden where we stayed looked like it could have been in Hawaii. We loved the warmth and even the humidity. Skin feels much better with some moisture in the air.

I would love that! Thank you. I will let you know if and when we go back. I'm ready right now, lol! Practically speaking it will probably be a year or two since we have a few trips other places already on the schedule.

Hetty, my husband just found out that one of his childhood friends lives in Naples and another lives in Venice, so there is a good possibility we may be able to get back there next winter. Smiling This trip we had a large family group, but I think we would go back by ourselves. None of our group was interested in botanical gardens or the plants. Sighing!

Hurray! Thank You!
Seeing the Florida plants, I felt like I was back in the Marshall Islands again. They have all of my favorites, and are so lucky to be able to have them outdoors! I have a few of them in my greenhouse, but there is never enough room.

This Adenium finally has it's first bloom on it, plus lots of other buds. I had previously accidentally knocked off another bloom.
The leaves are getting more and more brown. I'm thinking it's due to my hard water at both of our places.
The bloom seems a bit faded out to me. I remember it being much brighter. Maybe the LED light is too bright for it and fading it out? I think I'll remove it from the light to see how it does. I think the bright window light should be fine to keep it blooming from now out.

I have my other little Adenium I purchased at Home Depot. It was long and leggy and I cut it way back, both branches and roots, and now it's looking better. It also shows the browning on the leaves which probably is due to my hard water. I'll have to try to flush out the salts and give them better water.

Thank you, of course this is just the plain Jane Obesum variety and not up to the level of all of your lovely and colorful blooms. Even so, I'm very happy to finally have it leafed out and blooming! It has been a very long time! We have been carting it back and forth with us from AZ to NM and back every few weeks.

Do you all think I should remove it from the LED light and grow tent?

Thanks, T. I do love blooms, and Adeniums seem to bloom more freely than a lot of other flowering plants. I'm always surprised that they aren't more popular. In our areas we don't see them very often unless we go to special cacti/succulent nurseries.

Karen, what month did you do the trimming and pruning initially? I am feeling more encouraged to trim my Adenium, now that I see your rehab project.

I don't do LED/Grow tent either, Karen. However, I do move my budding adeniums from direct sunlight outdoors into my covered patio to protect the buds from rain, wind, and excess sun. They get some morning sun direct and/or filtered. The buds develop wonderfully and continue to bloom...there is enough stored energy in the caudex to support it. Please do not allow the soil to dry out completely as this will affect the blooms.

Hi Tarev, it was the first of July when I uprooted and trimmed the big Adenium. It would have bloomed before this if I hadn't managed to spray off the first bud! I was sure kicking myself for that. I think you'd be pleased by the result if you trim yours up.

It was October when I got the little Adenium and trimmed and potted it up in the bonsai pot. The way it's looking I think it will start to bloom soon.

I think I will remove it from the tent. My light should be fine to keep the blooms coming, and soon it will be warm enough to put it in the shade outside in Arizona. I think it has done the best when it's gotten fresh air outdoors. I will keep it well watered. Right now it's using a lot of water daily.

So...I recommend leaving it out of the grow tent and away from LED lights. The lights will fade the flowers quickly. Where you have it situated (in your photo) near a bright window should be fine.

EDIT: Cross-posted with Karen.

Thanks, KD, that is a good bright window in my crafts studio. I also have a bank of floor to ceiling windows in our sunroom downstairs. In Phoenix I have a big glass door where the light comes in well. I can't wait to get it back outdoors.

Karen, can you catch rainwater for your adeniums? I know it is outlawed to harvest rainwater in some western states but I am not sure about AZ.

Oh my goodness! Against the law to harvest or to catch rainwater? Is there a difference? I'm confused. Blinking

Oh okay...I googled the issue. Okay to catch rainwater but illegal to route through your household plumbing (in some states). Water companies lose revenue when people re-route (harvest) rainwater for use in showering, washing, etc.
