Elaine I left my nun orchid outside on my front porch the whole time and it looks like they are doing great!

Lindsey I love orchids that bloom more than once a year or send multiple spikes.

Their most noted habit is that they never go near trees, ever. Smiling

Look up Phaius.

Daisy am interested too. Thumbs up

Patty it is called a nun orchid because the bloom looks like a nun cap. Here is an article about it from AOS.

http://www.aos.org/Default.asp...

Now after reading the medium, I guess I'm doing something wrong. I planted this on a pure miracle grow slow release soil because I got this with a dirt on it. But I do let it dry before watering it. Although it is outside so it gets rained when it rains. I didn't realize that cymbidiums can tolerate peat moss (or dirt). No wonder why my cymbidiums died on me because after the blooms, I would repot them in orchid bark Thumbs down Thumbs down *Blush*

That was a joke. Maybe a should have said they never climb trees.

I plant my cymbidiums and Phaius in a combination of seedling bark, perlite and potting soil. About half potting soil, 1/4 perlite and bark.

I'll look for pictures.

That's what I use too, Daisy. I think this time I might add in some coco fiber chunks, as I happen to have a nice bag of it that someone gave me.

Patty, I need to re-pot my Phaius this spring after they've finished blooming, so if I can get some divisions off them I'll be glad to share with you. They are gorgeous, and would do really well in your garden. You have the perfect conditions for them. They only bloom once a year, but the blooms last for a month or more, if the weather isn't too hot.

I have a few I'm waiting to see!

This will be the first bloom on this one, 3 inflo's. I got it a couple of years ago from Fred Clark when he came to our Orchid Society meeting...it should be pretty unique! I cant wait!

Patty, is that a div you got at Tropiflora? I'm guessing from the tag style it's maybe one of Rafael's and if you phone him he will want the seeds from that pod? Failing that, I'd just let the seeds blow where they may - who knows in a few years if you'll be seeing gorgeous purple cattleya flowers all over your garden?

Trouble is, who knows if it self-pollinated or might be a cross? I think I have the same one, have to go check out my tags . . . it's a beauty!

I'm having camera woes, my good camera has the telephoto on, and is on the tripod, for bird pictures and DH updated my phone so now it won't talk to the computer . . . Rolling my eyes. Snobbish smartass phone.

Elaine, I'm SO glad I still have a 'stupid' phone! Rolling on the floor laughing I can't do anything 'fun' with it, but I don't have those problems either! Rolling my eyes.

Not sure if I got that one from Rafael or not...when I finally got around to 'cataloging' all of my orchids, that particular one must be one I REALLY, REALLY liked because I had 4 of them! Of all the bazillions of orchids in the world...I bought 4 of the same orchid! Hilarious!

I think I'll just let nature take care of the seed pod then! THANKS!!!
